I reckon defences are better than ever.... that's why it's all the more impressive what he's doing. He's up against 100kg physical freaks on the wing
Defences are better than ever? Don't tell anyone but have you seen our right edge defence the last 3 or 4 years? Inglis, Tedesco.....considered greats of the game but couldn't tackle to save themselves.
Langlands, Jack....back in the day when fullbacks could cover-defend. Nowadays fb's are just witches hats: that was why the RTS tackle last weekend was front page news.
BMOZ would've been bashed out of the sport by Peter Dimond.

LOL what utter tripe . Those guys are ringing wet 80kgs . The average winger is 100kg . The only thing that Peter Dimond would be getting is a concussion every off week. At no point in any 70s players career did they ever have to tackle a guy who can run the 40m in under 5 seconds , whilst weighing 115kg . Now there 5 in every pack , and sometimes a whole team of them .

Haha, accuse someone of 'utter tripe' then proceed to write a few paragraphs of utter tripe?. You reckon Peter Dimond was 80kgs? Ok.
Reg Gasnier, Ken Irvine (albeit both were centres) etc weren't absolute speedsters back in that era? Ok.
"Nowadays there are 5 players in the pack that can run 40m in under 5 seconds".?? Can you name that team for us all please???.

What are you talking about ? the biggest players in the game in the 70s were 100kg , max . And they were the front rowers . Yea I can for our team . Garner , Tuilagi , Uto , Chee Kam , Luci . Basically every forward , in the NRL is deceptively quick . Most , were backs at some point in the juniors .
At no point did any player in the 70s have to face a set of . Sivo , Fergo , lane , RCG , Junior Paulo , and then a kick . And you’re kidding yourself if you think that’s true. Yea they’d be able to defend it for the first 5 minutes . But the elite training methods of today , would mean that that barrage , would just keep happening for 80minutes , until the sheer amount of car crashes , you had to endure would be over whelming .
Let’s go to tactics , like bombing the ball to a fullback on his 10m line , so he gets to return it to a defensive line , who have a head of steam up . Every 2 minutes . And they whack him every time . There’s no way on earth any player from the 70s could endure that .
A full year or 2 of training and body development, of course . But that’s not what we are talking about .
A team from the 70s teleported to today , would get lapped by 100 points . If you don’t think so, then you’re on drugs .
I went to junior footy last year , and I’m 6 feet tall, and was about the right size for when I played . I saw an u16s game where the smallest kid on the field , was my height . And all had been lifting for years . So the next generation will be bigger , stronger , faster , again . Plus most kids play a variety of sports , which has been scientifically proven to develop more skill full sportsman .

I highly doubt Lucy, Stefano or Garner are that quick TBH. If they are I would implore them to demonstrate their pacy wares on gameday sometime.
Corey Thompson is a small bloke yet doesn't get carted off the field concussed every week from having to tackle all these behemoths. Daine Laurie? He takes these bombs you speak of and carries the ball into the heart of the defence. Tiny bloke, yet comes through unscathed. Pretty sure a hardman like Dimond would've been able to handle himself in today's game.
Comparing era's is pretty much pointless due to full-time professionalism, training methods etc but the blokes from yesteryear would go more than alright in today's bastardised version of RL.

Utter tripe indeed. Give yourself a chokehold for that effort!
Depends if you mean Under 5 secs for the 40 or 5.something for the 40
All would break 5. something for 40 ..that isn't that quick ...under 5 for the forty probably 60 % of them could .....
