THE NRL has rejected Manly's plea to ease their heavy early season schedule by ruling out shifting their round-two clash with the Wests Tigers from the Friday night slot.
>
The 2011 premiers have had a tumultuous off-season and things don't get any easier for them on the field with the Sea Eagles having to travel 21,257km over 21 days to play just three games.
>
In that time the Sea Eagles would have played English champions Leeds Rhinos in the Challenge Cup final, 2011 grand final opponents the New Zealand Warriors and this year's NRL favourites the Tigers.

Worried that the travel would take a heavy toll on his team's performance, new coach Geoff Toovey approached the NRL to have their second-round game moved to avoid the short turnaround."We are only just getting over the jetlag and the team is beginning to recover from the England trip," Toovey said. "We are acclimatising back to Australian weather.
\
\
\
"But then we have to head over on Friday to New Zealand to a ground we've never played at before (Eden Park) and in front of a big hostile crowd."
>
Instead of playing on the Friday night, the Eagles were hoping the NRL would agree to have the game played on the Saturday, or even the Sunday, to give players more time to recover.
>
"Unfortunately that didn't occur. So it's going to be very hard to play in New Zealand and **then have the short turnaround on Friday,**" Toovey said.
\
\
\
"But hopefully we will still be on a high from a win in Auckland and that will make preparations easier during the week."
>
Toovey says his appointment as coach on the back of Des Hasler's defection to the Bulldogs wouldn't affect his team as much as some experts expected.
>
"We haven't changed too much from what was a successful formula," he said.
>
"Obviously there is a new coaching staff but the players here are part of a very stable squad."
>
Toovey also said his team had put an off-season filled with boardroom feuds, talk of player revolts and lawsuits behind them and focused on going back to back in 2012.
>
"The vibe around the place is good, the players were probably disappointed they didn't get to celebrate the grand final last year as much as they would have liked to, but that's life," Toovey said.

Too many knocks to the head old Tooves methinks.

Playing the Sunday and then the following Fri is a short turn around.
Playing a Friday, then the next Friday, is NOT a short turnaround.

get over yourselves manly.
go buy some tissues. oh that's right they would be beneath you. :bawling
_**satin sheets are better to blow your delicate noses on.**_ :unamused:
in seasons past the current premiers have not been given any favours or leniency.
so why should anything be different this year.

So they want to move their game away from the highest media exposure game of the week?

Superb business accumen, their sponsors must be wrapped.

No wonder the gimps almost went broke a few years ago

Yeh ..so they are….article inferred they were playing On the Friday

It isn't an easy schedule but in saying that who cares.
They should get over it. The NRL has done the right thing by keeping a marquee match on the friday night.

We'll probably be playing in energy sapping heat with the same turn around and you don't see us whinging.

Seeking sympathy from the NRL before the season has even started…Tooves should head down to Bunnings and buy some cement. Geez, you'd think Manly were coming off the wooden spoon from last year.

It is a tough draw with the short turnaround and all the travel - oh well :unamused: Seriously though, the League should scrap the World Club Challenge. What a waste of time and effort! Nobody really cares about it, except the Poms - because when the Aussie champs haven't played a competition game for 5 months, they can actually jag a win sometimes

Buying my tickets today…if they change the day I'll ...........get really cross! :smiling_imp:

Thats a good point…theyve had tix on sale for this game for a week or two now....I wonder when they applied to have the change of day?

"But then we have to head over on Friday to New Zealand to a ground we've never played at before (Eden Park) and in front of a big hostile crowd."

:lol

What does playing at a new ground in front of hostile supporters go to do with anything? What a pack of pussies.

Perhaps the real reason they want the game moved is they know Manly fans won't travel there on a Fri whilst the Tigers will have plenty of support on the night.

We are the ones with a short turn around. We play Sunday and then have to back up on Friday. If we have to play in hot conditions on Sunday against the Sharks we will be the ones struggling with it being the early part of the season.

How arrogant are they to even consider asking the NRL! Every team will do the 5day turn around at some point, I understand they're coming from nz but seriously, who do they think they are, if the NRL allowed them teams would change all the time! Whingers!
