The point is - why put stuff in the ad that makes it political. It could have been a good ad, it didn't need stuff "outside football."
Firstly, yes, there are aboriginals playing League and about 59 other nationalities as well, Why were they not singled out as well?
Secondly, Why the Aboriginal flag? Why not the Lebanese, Samoan, New Zealand, PNG flag etc. It's not that the Aboriginal flag was used, but why not the others. If you are only going to use one, then don't use any.
Thirdly, the child singing - they could have used a child that could sing on key for the whole section of the song she had, as small as it was. Let's try and pinch the Qantas idea - "children singing, I still call Australia home" - Well NRL, it did not work.
Fourthly, The kiss on the lips by two women - This is what the women's game is about, I don't think so. I love watching the NRLW, women giving there all, yes there are probably Gay women playing and there are a lot that are not. The tiny snippit for women in the ad was token stuff, the NRL should be ashamed. Someone on her said that "the kiss" could be the equivalent of the Provan/Summons moment for women - selling women along way short I'd say.
I'm not striking at any vulnerable people with my keyboard, nor am I, a by product of anything. I do however stand up for quality, fairness and equal opportunity.
I am a great believer in if you are going t o make/run a Rugby League ad - keep it to the subject matter, maybe then you would have 100% of the viewers giving you Kudos for a great for the game they love.
Things like the Aboriginal flag were a snap shot. If they were to include every flag of every nationality, the ad would be 5 minutes long. I also don’t get the “they shouldn’t have had the flag......but why not include all the other flags”. Talk about an each way argument.
And i’m not sure who said it (and i’m not going back to find it) but it was suggested that the two women kissing might have objected to being portrayed in the ad that way. My guess is that the answer to that is a big fat no. As if the kiss hadn’t been discussed before hand. Like they didn’t understand the coverage it would bring. It’s partly why they did it. Hello!!
