I am not offended FG, I just don't see how you can misinterpret what a lot of people are saying on here.

The point is - why put stuff in the ad that makes it political. It could have been a good ad, it didn't need stuff "outside football."

Firstly, yes, there are aboriginals playing League and about 59 other nationalities as well, Why were they not singled out as well?
Secondly, Why the Aboriginal flag? Why not the Lebanese, Samoan, New Zealand, PNG flag etc. It's not that the Aboriginal flag was used, but why not the others. If you are only going to use one, then don't use any.
Thirdly, the child singing - they could have used a child that could sing on key for the whole section of the song she had, as small as it was. Let's try and pinch the Qantas idea - "children singing, I still call Australia home" - Well NRL, it did not work.
Fourthly, The kiss on the lips by two women - This is what the women's game is about, I don't think so. I love watching the NRLW, women giving there all, yes there are probably Gay women playing and there are a lot that are not. The tiny snippit for women in the ad was token stuff, the NRL should be ashamed. Someone on her said that "the kiss" could be the equivalent of the Provan/Summons moment for women - selling women along way short I'd say.

I'm not striking at any vulnerable people with my keyboard, nor am I, a by product of anything. I do however stand up for quality, fairness and equal opportunity.

I am a great believer in if you are going t o make/run a Rugby League ad - keep it to the subject matter, maybe then you would have 100% of the viewers giving you Kudos for a great for the game they love.

Things like the Aboriginal flag were a snap shot. If they were to include every flag of every nationality, the ad would be 5 minutes long. I also don’t get the “they shouldn’t have had the flag......but why not include all the other flags”. Talk about an each way argument.

And i’m not sure who said it (and i’m not going back to find it) but it was suggested that the two women kissing might have objected to being portrayed in the ad that way. My guess is that the answer to that is a big fat no. As if the kiss hadn’t been discussed before hand. Like they didn’t understand the coverage it would bring. It’s partly why they did it. Hello!!

I really wish that people would invest the same energy in addressing climate change, or the needs of the poor and minorities, or cancer research, as they do in complaining about ads.

"See I'm not complaining about the lesbians or the aboriginals, I just don't need that stuff in my footy ads. I'm totally about being inclusive, I just don't want to hear about it, I just want footy in my footy ads."

Ads for god's sake. Next there will be complaints "why is there an All-Stars match, why not matches to celebrate being European?" or "why do women get a specific round, where is the men's round?"

Complaining about the complainers is also funny

Somehow climate change is second to this rubbish ? I was speaking to someone the other day and they made a good point . Most of this Tribalism stuff popped up around the same time as everyone under the age of 35, realised that buying a home near where all the work is , is going to be tough without help . This is global by the way ! The wealth inequality getting worse has made everyone look at each other and start fighting with each other. ... again !

Climate change is not second fiddle .. it’s now Autumn the climate is changing !

I’m just over everything in life being made into a statement. It’s an advertisement for the game of rugby league. Just leave it for god sake... I’m over all this indigenous and same sex relationship crap being shoved in my face. I don’t care wether your proud of your heritage or proud of being gay or whatever... I come here to watch league. Full stop. Just over it. Blow the freaking whistle already.

Have you pondered the idea that the add is just showing people and you are in fact the one turning it into a statement? Do you take issue with the Lebanese people in Belmore? And the islanders? Or is your issue that it shows all kinds of people and you prefer to show one kind of people? Not having a go, trying to understand your view on it ✌️

No, I don’t see it as myself turning it into a statement. Every corner I turn there is someone pushing this lgbqt, or whatever it is, down my throat... same with this indigenous pride stuff... it’s like I’m ment to feel bad Or go out of my way to support them and other minorities every time I turn on the tv, when I have no issues with them to begin with... we are all ppl, we are all Australian... it’s the same with vegans and religious folk etc... I don’t care. Just stop pushing their agenda on me and stop segregating themselves into a box that is only dividing Everyone and causing an issue. You like different stuff great! You come from a different background, great! I don’t see a need for them or the media to constantly ram it into me. I’m nearly at the breaking point of being a person I don’t want to be because they just can’t leave it alone and be happy being who they are without letting me know that I’m a lesser person because I’m straight male middle class and white.

I think you’ve gotta give credit where it’s due. They tried to wedge a political statement . Full marks for trying. There’s no room for racism and sexualisation in rl. It’s a game for everyone.

Its always amused me that the ones that cry, beg and whinge about wanting to be inclusive are the loudest at shouting and creating division. I guess if they wanted to be truly included theyd then have nothing to whinge about, cant have that if thats what your entire identity and the sole reason you breathe oxygen is all about. Weak.

Ive got a few questions, Why would the nrl want to make the ad political like just why cause these days people are just going to get upset over everything and its bound to upset someone, and why does mitchel have to let every one know he is aboriginal and always got to display that he is, I understand he is proud but so is everyone else about their nationality don't understand why he gotta be extrinsic abut it

Because, rightly or wrongly a portion of society feel the need to constantly express their identity. Whether that be Aboriginality, Sexuality , Gender .. whatever. The t frustrates me most of the time because of how it actually spreads division not inclusiveness.
But this ad , does the exact opposite.
The tone is nostalgic, and it also embraces all these new forms of the game like woman’s , touch etc. and also brings up all the issues in the last 30 years including the worst thing of all Super league.
The pause for Lattrell , was a bit on the nose , and as subtle as an atom bomb but I’m not sure how you do that. My only question considering the huge influx of Polynesian players is why something similar didn’t happen for them. If all’s fair and equal.
I think it’s topical , it gets people talking , which is the point of an AD!!!
Maybe some kind of pause for different tribes on the beach doing war dances would have been better ? It drives home the fact that the games participants ,aesthetically, are very different Than in 1990.
If you’re whinging about the LGBT stuff , than have a look in the mirror !! RL is a tough game , so the reality that the woman’s game might have a large percentage of LGBT types playing hasn’t dawned on you yet ?
The girl at the end playing footy in the house , is indicative of the times . And so it should be . How many girls kicked ass as juniors back in the day only to be told at 12 .. see you later find another sport !
I’m definitely not “woke”. But you don’t have to be to see this ad does what it should . It embraces all . But could be better , with the flag stuff . That part seems half baked .

The point you make about Pacific Islanders being a major part of the game and their lack of representation in the ad serves to highlight the obvious political theme. Perhaps this is encouragement for the Island nations to dig up some old bones and find an enemy? Can’t see it happening, they’re strongly family focused and easy going really nice people.

Eh.... pretty sure domestic violence is like ten fold in Polynesian communities , so yea everyone has faults.
I’m just being objective . You and I have agreed a lot on these type of topics , however I don’t want to just plant my flag and that’s it .
Beirut you’re right . It is political . Like I said it’s on the nose . They should have done what I said . That could have been awesome . Instead we are debating politics instead of the fact that , yea , this is an inclusive sport . I still like the ad , despite its flaws . I saw a bridge there between the two eras, despite the lack of subtlety

I agree, why not? Then we can have a Pacific Islander game only, then an Anglo Saxon/Jutes/Norman/Pict game, then an SEAsian game, then an East Asia game, Arabics only game AND then top it off with a Neanderthal vs All Comers extravaganza.

Hello, whats wrong with you people that can't understand.

I'm saying because they can't logically include everyone's flag, they should not have played favorites and not put any in. Is that so hard to interpret?

You may not know who said about the kiss in your post but it was NOT me.

I'm straight middle class, male and white.

A lot of people, maybe all of us, have things going on that takes everything we got to get through. Sometimes I feel like that. When I'm trying to get through it, I sometimes find it hard to see the troubles others are going through. I'm not aboriginal or gay, I don't know firsthand their struggles, but like them and probably everyone else I got plenty of my own to focus on. Sometimes I feel no one is helping me, and I see others crying out for help and getting it, and it makes it harder for me. Why aren't they helping me, I think. I'm glad they're getting help, but man I'm drowning too.

So I hear you mate. It's not easy sometimes. The troubles you and I go through are just as hard and important and tough as another who is aboriginal or gay or whatever. I don't think you're a lesser person mate, and hope if you need help, someone is thwre that can buddy.

Why do you think you're meant to feel bad because there's an Aboriginal flag or a couple of lesbians on a TV advert? I'm a straight, white male and it doesn't make me feel anything negative at all. It's not doing anything to my way of life, because I don't feel my way of life is threatened by recognising that other ones exist. Do you think your culture is so fragile it can't survive the acknowledgement of difference?
