NRL Stadium plans to seal the deal

WOW this is fantastic news!!! I hope Australia get the soccer worldcup. I never thought a World Cup soccer game would ever be played in good old Campbelltown LOL. I live in walking distance to the stadium now. If this happens then we will be playing alot more home games in Campbelltown, the future of the Wests Tigers \(^-^)/

Also it looks like I could be right about the new western sydney a-league team playing their games at Campbelltown. Looks like it will happen if the Stadium is built.

A majority of home games would be played at the campbelltown stadium, with 3-4 games played at leichhardt against traditinal rivals (rabbitohs, roosters, manly, parra or the bulldogs), all on a sunday afternoon of course so that the ground can be packed out and live up to all it's glory.

I think all the home games could be played at Campbelltown Stadium. We don't play at Leichhardt against the traditional rivals now because the capacity is too small there and we would make alot more cash playing at the World Class 40,000 seat Campbelltown Stadium. 'World Class 40,000 seat Campbelltown Stadium' GOD IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

Unbelievable news if true. Would be a massive leg-up over every other team and a possibility of the Manchester United tag coming true. LOL.

However, we aren't going to get the thing. FIFA requires more than what we as a country could give. There are too many issues that hinder all the possible benfits.

you will never get 100% of games at one ground as long as there are two foundation clubs in the merger..
the reason i said tradtional rivals shoud play at leichhardt is because it would be a sell out, especially on a sunday afternoon.. If it's a sell out then there is no excuse that the club would be loosing money on having the game at a suburban ground..

OH PLEASE YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING, 2000 BEST OLYMPICS EVER AUSTRALIA WOULD BE THE BEST WORLD CUP EVER
THATS NOT BIASED EITHER THATS FACT.TELL ME HOW ON EARTH AUSTRALIA COULDNT DO A WORLD CUP.

The great disadvantage of Australia hosting the world cup is the distance from the vast majority of soccer fans. It is too difficult for people to get here.

But then if we played games in the evening, they would be on in the morning in Europe, so its not as if they would be getting up at 2am to watch a game…

Everyone always talks about the distance we are from other countries as being a disadvantage. I believe we hosted the Olympics a few years ago and I don't recall seeing too many empty stadiums/venues. When world youth day was on last year people came from all over the world to participate.
It is a world class event, soccer fans are some of the most fanatical in the world, whenever and wherever they hold the soccer world cup the fans will come.

how many backpackers do we have here already before we start counting new arrivals.Australians would support this thing like no other country.Socer is not a religion over here and neither is hype for that matter but we all get out and watch and participate and volunteer like no other country.Ive added this for people who doubt the amount of visitors.

We struggle to fill a 25k stadium with 3 games a year. How bad would a quater filled stadium look.

If the new Campbelltown Stadium is built the crowd numbers will be alot bigger. The crowds we get at Campbelltown now would be bigger if there was more shelter because people are worried it's going to rain. Also we don't play traditional clashes at Campbelltown but we will if this stadium gets built and that would make the crowd numbers larger. The new Campbelltown Stadium would basically be as big as the Sydney Football Stadium and I would rather Wests Tigers play at this new Campbelltown Stadium which is actually in our territory instead of SFS.

Just thinking though, how would this new stadium fit into the area it's in now. The ends of the Stadium (behind the deadball line) wouldn't be that big because of where the athletics track and Leagues Club are.

That is very true have a look at this comparison:

**Campbelltown as it is now:**

**Campbelltown with the SFS in place of the current stadium**

![](http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f188/craegus/campbelltownsfsoverlay.jpg)

**Campbelltown with Skilled Park in place of the current stadium**

![](http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f188/craegus/campbelltownskilledoverlay.jpg)

As can be seen both stadiums leave no room for movement around the stadium on the leagues club side or it covers some of the club, the tennis club and athletics track.

However this is what would probably have to happen as a larger stadium built for the world cup would have to allow for more parking and infrastructure:

or

If this plan goes ahead, which I really hope it does, the athletics field and tennis club will have to be removed for any new stadium to be built.

I have had a look at Google Maps for some vacant land there. There is a space next to the Campbelltown driving range north of the east-west running Menangle Rd. A 40000 seat stadium will hinder the current configuration of the Campbelltown Stadium athletics track plus the millions put into upgrading Campbelltown stadium this year will go down the gurgler.

So although they have never said it, they may look at a nearby location instead.

A 40000 seat stadium out there will be a dream come true. Wests Tigers will be nomads no more and the 9-3 game allocation will be good. Sydney FC would play the odd game there as too would the Tahs.

The only problem is this ;-

RENT.

How much would WT be charged to use the ground??

If this thing ever gets built, if WT are not given a competitive price they will not use it. They will go to wherever will give them the better return.

I am confident gate takings will be very high in the area for the WT if this stadium is built.

It is an exciting time. RCD Espanyol’s stadium is a fantastic quickly built stadium which complies with world environmental standards and is a 40000 seater. A lot of the stadium bits and pieces are prefabricated and the architects are specialists at World Cup venues. Something like this will make it THE BEST ground to watch league at in the NRL.
I think Australia is a great chance of jagging a world cup gig. We are brilliant organisors and we would pull off the greatest world cup ever. I am sure of that.

The only issue is TV rights and world TV times etc. But if the games beamed from South Africa rate well I am sure we will be in the boxed seat.

Your thoughts ?

Not completely sure but I would of thought any new stadium would of been a add on to existing work. Council I remember saying they had plans for a bigger stadium in the future which involved a new two tier Western stand and another level put on the Eastern side. I wonder if this what they are talking about?

I would demolish the whole lot though and start again. I think the room exists to built it over the available land at the moment. Digging down more would enable this I would of thought also…

AS for game splits, I can't see any more than 6 games allocated even if this is built. But I do see other clubs like the Dogs and the Roosters using the ground for a few home games.

Be easier to move a few tennis courts and an athletics track dont you think?

If they build the new Campbelltown Stadium it will be at the same location. It's perfect there - right next to Wests Leagues and Leumeah station.

It doesnt fit 25 k.

But we regularly get crowds bigger than 25k at modern stadia, you reckon facilities and capacity may have something to do with it?

Then you would have to build new tennis courts and athletics ground as well. How would that be easier ? If alternate land purchase ends up more pricey than that then I support your idea.
