NRL Team Announcement: Round 18

Tue 5th July, 05:00PM

Wests Tigers NRL Head Coach Jason Taylor has named his Round 18 team to take on the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs this Saturday, July 9 at ANZ Stadium.

With James Tedesco, Aaron Woods and Robbie Farah all unavailable due to State of Origin selection, Taylor has made several changes to this week’s team, with vice-captains Dene Halatau and Chris Lawrence to co-captain the side in Woods’ absence.

1\. Jordan Rankin
2\. David Nofoaluma
3\. Tim Simona
4\. Kevin Naiqama
5\. Josh Addo-Carr
6\. Mitchell Moses
7\. Luke Brooks
8\. Tim Grant
9\. Dene Halatau
10\. Sauaso Sue
11\. Josh Aloiai
12\. Chris Lawrence
13\. Elijah Taylor

14\. JJ Felise
15\. Ava Seumanufagai
16\. Michael Chee-Kam
17\. Kyle Lovett
18\. Joel Edwards

As expected I suppose. Still a decent team given the quality of the 3 guys out.

Will be a tough ask against the doggies tho

Looks like Sironen is definitely on the outer…he is playing NSW cup again

Needs to get his workate up. When he starts making 12+ hitups per game, I'd reconsider him. Containing the Bulldogs in the middle will be the hard part. They destroyed our forwards a few weeks back so it's redemption time. Line speed in defence will be key this week.

Who is going to be Dene's backup at hooker?

I really hope JT doesn't shift Taylor there after 20 mins. I can't seem to see anyone else that could cover hooker in the team and I don't think Dene can play 80mins at dummy half….

Can anyone shed some light on this one?

Yes - would have liked to see how went with another crack. Obviously he has going to have to work for it if in fact he gets another go at all.

I hope so, but we are still ranked second last on defence conceding over 25 points per game, I hope we can contain their forwards otherwise it could get ugly.
Lets hope the boys are primed for a big run home to the semi's. 😛ray:

I wonder whether Chee Kam can play backup hooker/dummy half?

I was wondering the same or perhaps Lovett…but there is no standout option in the team other than Taylor which, worries me somewhat. Shifting to Taylor to dummy half really detracts from our attack.

Dummy half will be same plan as Storm match. Taylor to start at hooker, Halatua to bench. Switch Halatua to hooker after 20 minutes.

Well, if I was Des, this is what I would prepare for….

Lovett to 9 possibly it's the only solution other than Dene, ET will never go anywhere near the dummy half!

JAC I reckon could play a big role in this match, I'm personally expecting a big performance from him

Liddle was not named in 20s or NSW Cup so mayby he will be a late inclusion hidden to keep the pressure off the young bloke

Cherrington not named anywhere either.

Naqaima will play a cameo role at 9

Don't know if a dummy half scoot off the first play the ball each set quite counts as playing at hooker. He seems to like them though, and it makes quick metres.

In other news, I really don't see how you'd pick Doughboy Edwards ahead of Sironen unless he's massively hardened up the last few weeks. The tackle bags hit with more force.

Pretty sure there is a u20s state of origin which Liddle would get picked for, so maybe he's unavailable and wasn't considered for first grade.

Not sure what has happened to Cherrington.

If Liddle is included does that mean MCK drops off the bench?

We need a good dummy half out there. Halatau can do the job for part of the game because Robbie is out. Still that is a decent team considering who we have out.

Geez we have some good forwards this year. Grant/Sue/Felise and Ava are our prop rotation with Woods out.

It's a tough game though.

As expected, was going to be tough even if our Origin guys were available. Hope the boys are fired up and play the full 80
