NRLW General Discussion

Nice win and well deserved…collectively they have shown a bit more than what I feared early in the season…

However, they are going to need at least 2-3 big names signing on this offseason it they want to do more than make up the numbers in 2025… Hope the club is working on this … Reminds me of where the Men’s club was 12 months ago..

I know they just won, but how do we manage to have the worst team in this comp along with the NRL side?
Good question. I guess the losing culture of our club spreads far and wide. Hopefully things will change next year for both teams. The women’s team have some good players in there, including the current NSW SOO captain, surely they can be better now they’ve had a couple of years experience In the NRLW.

Guys, its the way we prepare the players.
It is no coincidence we struggle through most grades.
When Sheens came aboard he was going to be the director of coaching or similar. I felt this was a good move to unify and standardise our structures and procedures as they apply to training and preparation.
The club obviously does not take this seriously as they assumed he could perform that role as well as head coach.

Kezzie Apps & Harmony Crichton were 2 big outs
they'll get back next season. Chelsea Saville & Evie
McGrath have changed the way we've been playing.
Piliae-Rasabale better used in the forwards 4 sure.
They'll be better next year like us, how much who knows

The whole thing looks like it's been chopped and changed for years with no continuity and/or methodology.

It takes time to impart a playing style on a club from top to bottom, so when the young guys or reserves hit the top grade, everyone can slot in easily, at least where the structures are concerned. Once you are rock solid in your playing style, you have a culture.

The most successful sides have a brand of football that they play and have played it for years. As an example, look at Melbourne. You know what you're gonna get with them every game and they don't even have the best team on paper each season. Sometimes it's the system that makes them look good.

These clubs make tweaks to their system rather than overhauls like us. If you're always starting from the beginning and aren't willing to push through the learning phase, then you'll always be stuck there and no one has confidence it will be the same next season so they never fully commit to the system.

One of our strengths is that we have a lot of kids in our system.
If I have got this correct:
We have 2 x Harrold Mathews Cup (u/17's) squads with an overspill into Andrew Johns Cup (u/16's).
We have 2 x SG Ball Cup (u/19's) squads with an overspill into Laurie Daley Cup (u/18's)
That keeps a lot of young players in our system and by rights, our Jersey Flegg Cup (u/21's) team should be well stocked and strong and it should feed into an equally competitive and strong KOE Cup team. This is not occurring.
There is a breakdown in the bottle neck of juniors becoming seniors.
There is no standardisation in how we prepare in the juniors as compared with the seniors.

So when the elite struggle out of these systems and earn a first grade spot, they dont seem on the same page. They are often playing a different brand of footy. Galvin and the rest of the backline are not in sync. Often Bula is similar. Theses two are free spirited players who drift around the field looking for opportunity. The rest are more structured and are often confused as to what their assignment is.
Now we are bringing in more structured players from good franchises for next year.
Will they meld? Forming a cohesive unit is Benji's headache.

As a standalone does the WNRL get a crowd over 3000 people for any team? Are they actually enough decent players to support a 10 team comp?

The quality of last nights game would indicate otherwise.

They should have left it at 6-8 for a few more years.
