NRLW General Discussion

I suspect Richo would not have got involved in this. A drain on funds and taking your eye off the serious stuff.

they haven’t signed anyone since last year and they only won 2 games ….

adopting the Men’s strategy of Development and promote from within which is working so well,,

Atrocious recruitment (what a surprise) and we're odds on to get yet another spoon this year.

With rumours that Kezzie Apps is now out for the season too we just have no quality. Young Lutu who's played half a dozen games. Togatuki up front too. That's it. The rest can all go....

Why didn't we sign any origin stars in the off season? We let our best player walk out last year, no thoughts on pinching a high performing payer from another club, just looking at signing kids and hoping that some eventually kick on.

I actually wonder what the record for most spoons by a club in one year is. We're surely pushing those boundaries.

I haven’t been watching their games this year ( I can only cope with one basket case a week)..

I have had some real concerns about how they would go this year and looking at their results to date ..this might be realised …

Now apparently Kezie Apps is out for the year 👎…

This is going to be really tough on these young girls ,, I think if it’s even possible, they have been mismanaged worse than the men’s team this past offseason with roster building and an over reliance on young talent …

Its not the look the club needs at this time..,

Oh no, now we're losing our ladies too? What's going on here?

The women have been disappointing this year and they seem to be losing their good players. Something doesn't sound quite right there. WE can't afford another basket case team given we are last in the NRL, KOE and NRLW and third last in the HN women's premiership.

Our squad is terrible and just keeps getting weaker and weaker. We need to sign 5-6 stars for next season, as quickly as possible too. Bo and Kezie can get regular contracts if they want to stay, and we target current Origin reps.
We lost Jakiya with no replacement, we lose Prior when hooker is already a weakness for us. We cannot simply rely on developing our own players, we need to recruit bigtime. Noddy needs to go too. Pretty much everyone involved in the current NRLW setup needs to be sacked and we start again with a clean slate.

Yeah 5-6 rep stars not going to happen.

The NRLW salary cap is just $1,020,000 with a minimum wage of $34,000 and a squad of 24 players, even on the minimum you have used $816,000 of your cap leaving just $204,000 extra for any star players.

As such the majority of your squad are not going to be be professional players and will need to have jobs outside of league, which in turn makes it more difficult for them to shift clubs, this is where there will be advantages for clubs like Newcastle, Canberra, North Queensland, Brisbane and Gold Coast with players reluctant to move from one club town's or interstate for just minimum wage.

It's no coincidence the Bulldogs have started by signing spine players before using what will be left in the cap to fill their squad with minimum wage players.

A cap of around $2,000,000 and a liveable $60,000 minimum wage would make it a better competition.

That's pretty crazy, to think there's only an extra 200k to spend on players above the minimum wage across an entire squad.

But still we can target a couple of stars. Bo is worth minimum wage these days, Kezzie only slightly more than that. Togatuki and Lutu the only other players worth something above minimum

2023 was also the first year clubs could sign players to multi year contracts so of course clubs will sign their star players to these.

Our star signings were Bo, Kezie and Togatuki, unfortunately Bo did her ACL in her last season at the Eels, prior to that she was on a par with the best fullbacks in the comp, and wr have lost Kezie for the season.

Jakiya Whitfield wasn't a star when she arrived here and was likely on close to minimum in 2023, made it hard to compete when your extra cap money is already committed to others on multi year deals.

Same as Ebony Prior, came through our ranks so would be on close to minimum, and the Bulldogs need a team so have kicked off trying to lure the best spine players available where they can entice them with higher long term deals and then will fill their squad with local and minimum wage players.

Club has made many horrendous decisions over the years but the way it is currently with unforeseen injuries to the minimal star players a club can realistically have and the very low cap makes it very difficult to juggle the cap and your playing group.

Just feel a cap of say $2m - $2.5m and a minimum $60,000 - $65,000 would give the girls more financial security and allow them a bit more freedom to move around clubs with a decent amount left for the star players, would make it easier for clubs to manage their roster.

Thanks. I’ve only watched about 10 minutes of the team this year, but I liked how she (Prior) played last year. I’m a fan of Losana Lutu and Sarah Togatuki, think they're both great talents. I also really enjoyed watching Jakiya Whitfield last year and felt it was a shame that we didn't hang on to her.
