A transgender athlete is on the cusp of playing in the women's National Rugby League with her application currently being considered by the NRL's top brass.

Although teams in the NRLW are preparing for the finals, a new competition is set to start up in August with about 150 players raring to go.

At least one of them was born anatomically male prompting discussions about the rules about her joining a squad for pre-season trials, the Daily Tele reported.
Some brushed off the inclusion of transgender athletes in sport in general as being too 'woke'.

'NRL has gone out of its way in recent years to promote all things woke. You don't get much more woke than this,' one person commented .

But others said: 'I have no problem with it' and 'let her play'.

'I think the best thing the could do is let the NRLW players vote and make the choice since it is them affected the most,' a Twitter user wrote.

Another commented: 'Repeat after me: Trans women are women. How many times do we have to say it! Btw [sic] are any former NRL players playing women's rugby league?'
The NRL has a case-by-case policy when it comes to transgender competitors, and says it will not allow any discrimination against transgender athletes.

'The NRL is committed to providing a safe, fair and inclusive sporting environment where all individuals can contribute and participate,' the game's 50-page member protection policy states.

'We will not tolerate any unlawful discrimination or harassment of a person who identifies as transgender or transsexual or who is thought to be transgender or transsexual.'

The NRL also says that excluding people from participating in sporting events and activities because of their gender identity 'may have significant implications for their health, wellbeing and involvement in community life'.

'We are committed to supporting participation in our sport on the basis of the gender with which a person identifies,' the policy reads.

However it goes on to say that if issues of performance advantage arise, the NRL may reconsider their stance on individual players.

'We also recognise that there is debate over whether a male-to-female transgender person obtains any physical advantage over other female participants,' the policy says.

'This debate is reflected in the divergent discrimination laws across the country.

'If issues of performance advantage arise, we will seek advice on the application of those laws in the particular circumstances.'

NRL needs to be more inclusive of everyone we do not want to be like the AFL turning away trans athletes and the viewership of the womens comp has gone down big time since its 2022 not 1822.

A smart step in the right direction 🙌🙌🙌
