Western Suburbs Magpies Knock-On Effect NSW Cup Coach Ben Gardiner has named his 20-man squad to take on the Canberra Raiders for their season opener this Sunday.

Gardiner has named a strong squad for the match at GIO Stadium, which will be played as the curtain-raiser to Wests Tigers clash against the Raiders at 4:00pm.

Halfback Jock Madden will lead the side around and will be high on confidence after an impressive pre-season with the NRL squad which also saw him re-sign with the club on a one-year extension until the end of 2022.

New Wests Tigers recruit Tuki Simpkins is another player to keep an eye on after he showed his skills in the first grade trial games last month, while 2021 Development Players Kelma Tuilagi, William Kei and Reece Hoffman have also been named.

NRL squad members Zac Cini, Jake Simpkin and Alex Seyfarth will also feature for the Magpies this week, who will be eager for a big 2021 campaign after last year’s season was cancelled following Round 1 due to COVID-19.

I thought the club views Tuki as a future lock?

Decent starting 13, Tyrone Roberts nowhere to be seen either

Wait till Packer comes down to NSW Cup then he'll play 13

Either Packer or Mikaele depends who performs better in NRL imo

There isn’t much difference in the position these days anyway

Tom Amone has to slot in somewhere as well - going to be a pretty formidable pack of forwards once all are on deck.

That is a really solid team. Is it broadcast on TV?

No Our NRL game is on 9..

So Foxtel are covering Sunday Blacktown Workers v North Sydney prior to our NRL game ...go figure..

I think they want to make sure he's thoroughly involved. He's far from a basic one out prop. But the one thing he needs to work on after coming from rugby is the power and impact of his runs. I think he'll play 60-80 mins and rotate to lock after 30.

Amone not there?

He’d still be in rehab wouldn’t he?

Who knows how far away he is. Need a injury update.

Also interesting to see EJ Lui has jumped ahead of fellow Flegg boys Felix Smith and Mavoni Tuifua to play off the NSW Cup bench.

The club will probably be more proactive now the season is just about in full swing , but I wouldn’t hold my breath lol

Love the selection of Joe Taipari.

He is our future 7.

Isn’t he a parra reject? or am I thinking of someone else
