NSW Ins & Out's

I know the rule about not changing a winning squad but if Klemmer is fit I’d bring him in for Sims.

If Cleary is out, I’d give Pearce a chance at redemption.

You watch every two headed qld knob in the media say we HAVE to pick Pearce. There's a reason for that.

Barely noticed Cleary again (in the first half). NSW wouldn't have won without Maloney. If Pearce comes in the only difficulty will be working out who is the dominant half, Pearce or Maloney.

Bro klemmer for saifiti and another half are the only changes. possibly wighton to move infield with Mitchell re called

@Jay I thought Cleary had an excellent first half.. The best thing about him is that he doesn't overplay his hand - especially as the team was firing.. make your tackles (which he did).. kick the spaces (which he did).. and check the defense now and then (which he did).. I think its a bigger loss than its being represented.. Every team needs 'glue guys'.

NSW lost nothing when he was off. If anything they were better. Cleary is way overrated.

Have to disagree, Mike. While they still played well with him off you can’t take away from his first half. Did everything right including forcing two errors in possession from their big men.

We’ll have to agree to disagree then because Cleary has been crap all year. The most overrated player in the NRL at the moment.

Mitchell re-called? You're kidding right? Matterson in for Sims if he's gone and pearce for Judas' son

I’ve been thinking and based off tonight’s game Pearce is a no with Cleary out.....i usually disagree with keeping graham at six as the would put way to much pressure on Maloney as graham gets tired.....but the solution is...graham 6 matterson 14...like for like so Maloney always has a fresh big body 5/8 which also means wighton can stay in the centres...yeah Mitchell sucks tbh

Blues Origin 3 team options: Fittler will give Cleary time to prove fitness

Brad Fittler will select Nathan Cleary in his squad for the State of Origin series decider but will give the injured halfback until Thursday to show he will be fit for the July 10 blockbuster at ANZ Stadium.

**Fittler, who will announce his squad for Origin III on Monday afternoon**, told the Sunday Footy Show that Cleary would be given every chance to prove his fitness after suffering an ankle injury during the 38-6 win over the Maroons in game two in Perth.

"He'll be definitely trying to run by Tuesday and that will be the big indicator," Fittler said.

"He's a link player, so to bring in other link players makes a difference to the cohesion of your squad. We really hope Nathan's fit and healthy.

"Tyson Frizell didn't run [ahead of] game one, when he had the concussion, until about Friday. He was a very important part of our team last year.

"It's all very individual on how long you give someone and I think Nathan, our first real running session will most probably be Thursday. He'll at least have up until then."

Knights veteran Mitchell Pearce and Sharks co-captain Wade Graham, who filled in superbly in the halves when Cleary went off injured at Optus Stadium, are the main candidates to replace the Penrith playmaker if he cannot be ready for game three.

Blues five-eighth James Maloney is confident his Panthers halves partner will be able to face the Maroons.

"I think there's positive signs as far as I know," Maloney said.

"The swelling was going down, he was getting weight back through it.

"He's been doing everything, 24/7 he's smashing his physio [work] doing everything he can. I'm crossing everything hoping he is alright."

Maloney said Cleary would not risk letting the team down by declaring himself fit to play if his ankle had not healed sufficiently.

"It's a big opportunity to play in a decider back in Sydney, so he will do everything possible, but on the flip side he will make the right call," Maloney said.

What if Maloney gets injured during the game, there is no one to run the show, they need another half

The Blues are expected to go with Wade Graham at five-eighth and James Maloney at halfback if Cleary is ruled out, but there is a chance Mitchell Pearce could be chosen.

That would leave Ryan Matterson to come on to the bench as the utility player.

Matterson has been a shadow player in the squad all series and has impressed the Blues’ coaching staff with his input and ability, as a utility, to play several positions. (Rothfield)
