NSW must pick Farah: Sheens

Kangaroos and Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens says NSW must bite the bullet and pick in-form Tigers hooker Robbie Farah for State of Origin I.

Farah, who starred for City in Sunday's win over Country, is believed to be behind veteran Newcastle rake Danny Buderus for the hooking role ahead of the Melbourne clash on May 23.

But Sheens says the time has come for Blues coach Ricky Stuart and his selectors to make the hard decision to overlook Buderus and pick Farah, who played two Origins in 2009, with a view to the future.

"He should be playing for NSW without a doubt," Sheens said on Thursday.

"I think NSW has to work hard at what they're doing down the track and I can't see a 34-year-old Danny Buderus there next year, if he is there this year.

"I think they've got to come up and be consistent.

"I thought that was Ricky's idea last year, was to come up with a spine and stick with it."

Last year, Stuart made the decision that he was going to build around the spine of Jamie Soward, Mitchell Pearce and Michael Ennis, but only Pearce seems to be in favour in 2012.

"That's obviously gone by the by with Soward out of favour and even Mick Ennis out of favour," Sheens said.

"I think at some stage NSW are going to have to looking at 'well this is the group we're going to go with and stick with it'."

Sheens said Farah's combination with City halfback Pearce and Cronulla five-eighth Todd Carney should work in his favour.

Pearce appears to have locked up the NSW No.7 jersey after two dominant displays for City and then the Sydney Roosters in the space of four days, while Carney is the front-runner to partner him in the halves.

"He plays very well with Mitchell Pearce, and it would appear to me that Mitchell is headed for NSW," Sheens added.

"He's also played very well with (Todd) Carney going back to the Four Nations win in Eden Park a couple of years ago."

pfftt pearce? moltzen should be halfback aye Sheensy?

although he is right, every year, we say we need to stick with spine bla bla.. i really dont know why Soward is being over looked. didnt play a game wrong in origin last year imo.

Soward proved in the roosters game why he shouldn't be NSW 5/8th

Despite his indiscretions, Todd Carney or Peter Wallace wouldn't have a brain explosion at a referee and give away a penalty directly in front of the sticks 6 points behind, with five minutes to go.

Sheens is certainly right NSW needing to choose Farah this year. I seriously cannot work out why Burderus is favorite in the first instance, his form is nothing special and he's never offered much in the way of creativity around the ruck. Having the likes of Farah, Pearce and Carney together gives NSW some genuine ballplaying options, as well as a very good kicking game, and Farah is easily good for 40+ tackles a match, something Buderus and Ennis cannot match.

If they pick Pearce/Carney in the halves Robbie also offers the left foot kicking option which is great asset

Now it's up to Robbie to actually back this up with on field performance.
Remember he's only played ~5 minutes of club football in the last month and before that our spine of him, Benji and whoever else looked cod ordinary.
ie. city/country is his only good game this season (and his stats are still miles better than the other options which highlights how rubbish Buderus and ennis are)

I still believe you can actually play both Buderus & Farah with Robbie off the bench for a large middle stint.

It gives Robbie some time to work with an Origin great which should have happened as far back as 2007 and it means no Gidley

Blah blah blah sheens ,you can't even get your own team selections in order. Please stay away from origin and let Ricky do his job…

Do you mean the Australian team or the Wests Tigers team ?
He seemed to do ok with the Australian team ….. Good on him for speaking out.

yes it would be good for Robbie to play Origin.
origin does not contribute any points towards teams making the finals.

if he gets a chance, nail it this time.

if overlooked, play out of his skin and show what selectors they missed out on.

IMO would rather him play for wests-tigers during origin time, help win matches, which will go towards a definate finals spot for wests-tigers.

Can't stand coaches talking up their own players and players talking up their teammates

If he can't wrap his own players when he is asked a question macman who should he wrap

So next time he is asked "Should Robbie be NSW hooker " he should reply "No' there is 5 other hookers before him"

Of course coaches will push their own players barrows

Can you imagine Ennis reaction if Des Hasler was asked if Ennis should be NSW hooker and he said "No , he is a pussy ,the only thing he is built for is a float in the mardi gras' do you think Ennis would be happy ??

Get my point ??
