Congratulations to Mitchell Moses & Manaia Cherrington for being selected to represent NSW in Under 18's Origin

I do find it a bit odd that the Australian champions get 2 and Souths got 3 players in but perhaps some of our better boys are still injured and/or suspended.
 
Injury and suspensions didn't influenece the numbers but it does seem that both Balmain and Wests have little influence over who gets picked compared to other clubs. We should have had 2 players in the 16's without doubt and at least 1 and possibly 2 more should have made the 18's.
The 3 of the Souths players are all backs and we scored most of our 7 tries against them running straight past these guys, Tyrone Phillips and Alex Johnston are very suspect defensively no complaints about Aaron Gray being selected though. Illawarra were one of the most disappointing teams in the ball and got 2 players in :wtf .

Can someone let ALL the NSW selectors know that the patch of land between Ryde & Campbelltown is actually NSW?
 
I also see none of our coaching/support staff got an invite either… So the team who won the state/national title convincingly (losing what one game all year?) gets 2 players yet a losing finalist gets 3 and a team that got lapped gets 2?

Fair dinkum...No wonder league in this state is stuffed...
 
During the Season Balmain smashed the Roosters who are full of QLD players, convicingly beat Canberra in the SG Ball Grand Final who are also full of QLDers and then went up to QLD and beat their best U/18 team convincingly.

I hope the NSW 18's beat the QLDers or it will look very embarrasing for the Selectors if they don't.
 
Back in 2002 when Wests won the SG Ball only Ryan Hoffman was selected from Wests. Go figure. They only lost 1 game & that was to Balmain & they had no reps. Selectors have their fav clubs, that's for sure. [too bad for A Woods also]

I know your involved with this age flash and its probably a new thing for you but I can tell you it happens every year and form has very little to do with selection.
The fullback for NSW under 18's last year was a kiwi by the name of Nesiasi Mataitonga from Cronulla ahead of James Tedesco. Happens every year mate. Pretty sure they don't really watch many games.

Yep but it doesn't happen in Qld

Many years ago I was involved in a state carnival and Les Kiss's brother was at

His Dad and Les's brother (Stephen I think his name was ) paraded around like he was the world's best winger

He didn't get picked and you should of seen the carry on from his family to no avail
 
Yeah I know Blackandwhite but sometimes you hope they actually do take notice and pick deserving kids.
I wish Mania and Mitchell all the very best and I am sure they will lead the charge and do themselves and our club proud, I will be out there cheering for them and the U/18 Blues.

Queensland picked 4 Canberra and 3 Townsville players which should be a minimum for a team that wins NSW selectors take note!! Not a bad looking team IMO.

I would say Mason Farrell & Daniel Rakvin were 2 of our best and most consistent players during the Finals series and deserved a spot and Salesi Funaki was also unlucky. After seeing Shannon Crook get selected at half I would also throw Luke Brooks in as well.
 
An interesting lack of Poly names…only 3 or 4 unusual, that said I guess there could be many more there
 
Luke Brooks would have been a shoe in if not for injury and if that was the case we would basically had the spine. To get the no6 and 9 is a pretty good effort. Junior selections are always puzzling ,been the case since year dot. lots of I will scratch your back if you scratch mine
 
I wonder how much longer they can keep Moses and Cherrington out of the NYC side. That loss to Melbourne could have given Payten an excuse to do it if not for this Origin match.

They had a very tough game 6 days before in Canberra. It probably wasn't a big surprise they were a bit flat against Melbourne. It would be nice to see Moses get a run though.
 
Yeah I wouldn't really want to drop anybody because of one loss especially for reasons you noted but Moses needs to get into the Wests Tigers jersey asap and Cherrington is probably already the second best hooker in the entire WT program from what I can tell.
 
Only picking 2 players from the winning SG team is just ridiculous forget about it being Balmain this year. Every year they have to pick 4-5 players from the top team and 2-3 from the runner up if they are serious about winning these games. I felt for Mitchell and Manaia who tried hard but when you only have 4 days to try and get some combinations going it is difficult particularly in pressure situations. There were 4-5 ordinary performers out there last night who should have never been there in the first place.
QLD on the other hand picked 4 from Canberra (SG Runner up) and 3 from Townsville who were the QLD champs. Just seems like common sense to me.
