Bulldogs beat Wests Tigers 22-16 in NYC

Wests Tigers suffered a 22-16 loss to Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Allianz Stadium tonight in round 19 of the NYC competition.

The opening 20 minutes was a real arm wrestle with both sides having limited chances inside the opposition's quarter.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the 21st minute when prop David Klemmer used his strength to brush off three defenders on the line to score next to the posts. Half-back Freddie Robinson converted the try for a 6-0 lead.

A beautiful piece of play involving half-back Jack Madden and five-eighth Jacob Miller saw full-back Manaia Rudolph cross out wide from an inside ball by Miller in the 29th minute. Rudolph converted his own try for a 6-all scoreline.

Canterbury-Bankstown went to a 10-6 lead in the 33rd minute when winger Sam Ahofono dived over in the corner after the ball was shifted right through several hands. Robinson converted the try from the sideline for a 12-6 lead after 35 minutes.

Some fancy footwork by Miller and Rudolph to keep the ball alive in the final minute saw lock Brenden Santi send an overhead pass out to winger Marika Koroibete to score in the left corner. Rudolph failed to convert the try to leave Wests Tigers trailing 12-10 at half-time.

2nd Half
Rudolph put Wests Tigers ahead when he sliced past a defender before stepping inside another player to score from a 20 metre run in the 47th minute. Rudolph converted the try for a 16-12 lead.

The lead was shortlived when Bulldogs forward Leilani Latu brushed off two defenders to score out wide a few minutes later. Robinson converted the try for an 18-16 lead to the Bulldogs after 55 minutes.

The Bulldogs extended their lead in the 62nd minute when second-rower Tupou Sopoaga scored out wide for a 22-16 scoreline.

I would say the main reason is he can't tackle.

A fill in fullback? He's done a good job since he's move back there! Out of all the good things he did tonight you only pick up on one dropped ball?! A team has 80 mins to win a game not one catch, kick or pass! And why would you move Nofoa back to fullback when he's played so well at 5 when he's been on the field?!

That is right he is a fill in, it's great that he is a good attcking player but he we all know what happens if you don't defuse kicks and come up with a few try savers at fullback. That one drop that I "picked up on" cost us the game, there was very little pressure on him and we were dominating the game the Doggies scored from that and we just couldn't get back into the game, how will he go when he gets bombarded as he will now that oppostion coaches see that it is a weakness in his game.

Noffaluma was just a suggestion because the red nosed reindeer is not the answer there.

So what you're saying is that between the knock on, wayward pass and the loose ball carries they made in the last 3-5 minutes, it's THAT dropped ball that was THE reason why we lost the game? That's just nit-picking to find an excuse as to why we lost!
I'd like to ask you what dropped ball you are referring to as the Bulldogs scored their last try at the 62nd min and Rudolph did not drop a high ball all game! Yes he did last week against the knights and 3 plays later they scored under the posts, which was also assisted by some lazy line defense?!
We could also go on to say that those few ridiculous penalties against us also lost us the game! No! At the end of the day a team has 80 mins to seal a game away and if they cant, then the TEAM as a unit must take responsibility! It's a favorite pastime for people to point blame because it's an easy rationalisation, but the reality is, is that 17 boys are named in the team not 1.

Dogs get a repeat set after Rudolph spills a pretty average bomb with not a lot of pressure on him. Score a few tackles later from a simple hit up. Poor defence.

Really dissapointing as tigers were well on top.

This is what I am referring to looks like he dropped one while you weren't looking, I don't blame Rudolph but you just can't throw kids back to fullback and expect that they will get the job done when the pressure is on. Yes there were other factors in the loss but this was a critcal mistake at a critical time, experience is needed at the back. Beau Ryan and Moltzen will continue to stuff up at the back beacause they aren't fullbacks.

Last time I checked Billy Slater was prone to the occasional error too.
