NYC Live Game Thread vs Knights Round 1.

Fulltime, Tigers 22-12 over the Knights despite cranking out an extra 50 tackles. Well done boys.
 
Wests Tigers have opened the 2013 Holden Cup season with a 22-12 victory over the Newcastle Knights at Hunter Stadium tonight.
Wests Tigers got off to a superb start when centre Leva Li was put into open space to step past the fullback to score next to the posts. Five-eighth Matt Mulcahy converted for a 6-0 lead.
The Knights looked set to score in the 23rd minute through forward Jeremy Ma'a from a short inside ball only to drop it in a tackle made by full-back Kurtis Rowe.
Newcastle were camped inside Wests Tigers quarter for a good 15 minutes before scoring a soft try from dummy half through hooker Adam Clydsdale. Winger Lachlan Shipard converted for a 6-all scoreline.
SECOND HALF
Talented Wests Tigers half-back Luke Brooks showed his class when he got on the outside of his man to race 65 metres to score in the corner in the 47th minute. Mulcahy converted for a 10-6 lead.
The Knights drew level three minutes later when a crossfield kick on the last tackle by Clydsdale saw winger Jake Mamo leap high to take the ball to score. Shipard converted the try to give Newcastle a 12-10 lead.
Newcastle were denied a try to Jah Pakau a few minutes later when he lost the ball under the posts in trying to score in a three man tackle.
Wests Tigers took advantage in the next set when captain and prop Kyle Lovett showed great pace to race downfield to be held up over the line in a desperate tackle by winger Jake Mamo.
A minute later, a nice break by winger Delouise Hoeter saw him in open space to link up with full-back Kurtis Rowe who raced away untouched to score. Mulcahy converted to give Wests Tigers a 16-12 lead.
Wests Tigers put on another try shortly after when talented young replacement hooker Manaia Rudolph found open space to send Mulcahy over. He converted his own try for a 22-12 lead.
