NYC Live Game Thread vs Raiders

Miller was a class above all on the field. Without him yesterday the Tigers would have got lapped. As it was we were very lucky to get away with that one. Canberra had enough chances in the first half to be ahead by 30.

The number 12 (Sue?) had a great game. First grade material if I have ever seen it.

I`m not so sure Col. I agree with you a lot of the time and I certainly agree that Sue puts in plenty of effort each and every week and is a big part of the success for this current U/20`s team, BUT he`s not real big, he`s not real fast and for mine isn`t aggressive enough to make up for those shortfalls. Don`t get me wrong, I`d definately like to see the club retain him and give him another season or two in State Cup to see how he develops given that he is still so young, but we have just signed two very good back rowers in Eddy Pettybourne and Bodene Thompson, I don`t see anything from our current U/20`s backrowers to say that they are better options than the blokes we have signed.
In my opinion Joel Reddy also has the makings of a very good back rower and could become another real strike weapon for us in that position if developed properly.
Back row is certainly not a position that we are going to struggle in despite losing Gareth Ellis.

As for the u/20`s forwards who will make the step up to first grade, I think it`s only a matter of time before Matt Groat proves his worth at NRL level, I`m a big fan of Kyle Lovett, he needs to run the ball a little harder when playing prop, but he`s got the perfect physique and mobilty across the ground to be a top quality first grade forward and with a back ground as a state champion boxer, I don`t think there`s any doubt he has the toughness required either. Nathan Brown always gives his all, but I have my doubts he will have the size to make in impact at NRL level with the style of game he plays. I`m a fan of Soni Paasi for impact off the bench, but Todd Payten must have some reasons for not using him regularly and is obviouly not a big a fan of Passi as what I am. Joel Luani is similar to Sue, gives his all, but not overly big or fast for an NRL forward these days. I`d say Andrew Vela who is out with a long term injury is the best young back row prospect we have and Santi also has plenty of mobility for a man of his size which may see him succeed at NRL level once he adds a little more size.

There's plenty of potential in the U20s squad this year. Most of them are playing their first year of NYC or played a handful of games last year. For such a raw team they're playing so well.

Solid old school footy from the tigers. Very different to their usual playing style.
Miller was the classiest on the field by far. Groat struggled big time. May have been his dodgy knee in the wet conditions but he looked terrible and way under standard, even for the 20s

Miller Yes, Fine Maybe but those games are won by the forwards Innosesio, Brown, Luani and Lovett way ahead of speed bump Marshall-King. I don't know about Groat struggling he did OK.

Most of them are playing their first year of NYC or played a handful of games last year. For such a raw team they're playing so well.

Most of the Wests Tigers NYC players are 20 years old so don't know about them being raw age wise. Only 6 from the 17 that took the field on the weekend will be eligible for NYC again next year, Manaia Rudolph, Brad Soe, Nathan Brown, Kyle Lovett, Brenden Santi and Kurtis Rowe.

Just reported on fox sports news Marika will cop 3 weeks with an early guilty plea….could have been worse!!

It's not his first decent game. He is having great impact off the bench. Love watching him close to the line. He's picked up quite a few tries this year by tucking the ball under his arm and running low and hard for the line. Hope we keep him around. Given some time and hard work he could be quite explosive in a few years

From the little I have seen I don't think he is at Vela's level yet but he is improving steadily .

Vela is a big loss, but such is the depth in the side this year they're still going great guns without him. I won't be surprised to see Vela make his FG debut next year.
