MOSES Mbye looks to be headed out the exit door at the Bulldogs, with the star utility reportedly agreeing to a deal to join the Wests Tigers.

Canterbury have been forced to shop around some of their highest profile players due to salary cap pressure and the Tigers look to have capitalised.

According to an Inside Sport report, Mbye’s signing with the Tigers is close to being announced.

It comes at a crucial time in the Tigers’ rebuild with Ivan Cleary’s side emerging from a tough period to be in contention for a finals spot this season.

With Tui Lolohea struggling to put his stamp on the fullback spot, the club has been in the market for a top end No.1 and Mbye fits the bill after an excellent first half of the season following his switch out of the halves.

According to the Inside Sport report the Bulldogs will cover $250,000 of Mbye’s yearly salary, which is set to go above the $800,000 mark next season.

It's pretty much confirmed at this point imo. Good signing if the reports that the Bulldogs are paying around 200k of the salary are true.

Seems like this is happening, unlike the rubbish about Rona, Barba, Holmes etc that won’t die. Almost time to start discussing where we should play him.

X2

Upgrade on Thompson at fb imo. I like the signing I think he will fit into the new culture we're building and if they're paying that much of his salary it's a no brainer.

I know Cleary will get the credit for this, but the man we really need to thank for this is Dessie. Thank you Dessie.

I think his best positions in order are

Fullback
Hooker
Running 5/8.

His strengths are his speed and running game. He also can throw a quality long pass as half of his older highlights are long balls to Thompson and Rona.

ur right 3 cheers to dessie, without him, all else fails. dessie ur a champ.

Some have suggested that we will front load his salary, paying part out of this yeas cap?

Will that then count towards this years squad numbers or do we still need to promote/recruit?

announcement imminent?

So is this a mid season signing meaning he can play for us this season ?? or is it for next season ??

Hmm I don’t know how to feel about this… to me his best position is a running 5/8, and I can only assume we’re getting him to play fullback. I see similarities to the signing of Lolohea, albeit Mbye has a bit more talent. Hopefully it works out, and I love that the dogs will be paying part of his salary.

Mbye has had a reasonably good run with injuries. According to Wikipedia:
2017 - 22 games
2016 - 25 games (didn’t miss a game)
2015 - 23 games

Not sure I'm over the moon either. That means we are paying $550 if those figures are close. Not sure about that. And are we adding to that in the years afterwards?

That's an uninformed comment. He definitely doesn't have more talent but, I concede, he is in better form.

I dont really see it the comparison personally. Tui was a talented player in and out of the top grade before we signed him. Mbye has been a regular first grader, puts in extras and with a running role his game has significantly improved.

For me, it doesn't matter where he plays as long as he isn't organising the team, he will do well. A running 6 outside Brooks or Cleary with Tui "firing" at 1 would be great. But I think the obvious scenario is Mbye at 1, and I'm very happy with that.

BTW, dont expect an announcement before Sunday's game. Tigers have more class then that. If it is a done deal, they will certainly wait until after they play the dogs to announce it.

If true, a really good signing. He ticks a lot of boxes that we need ticked and seems like a really well adjusted kid. A couple more signings like this will make us a very handy side next year
