This won't be popular but when you see someone is going to kick the ball, which is always a number of metres away, you pull out of the tackle. Pressuring is fine.

Always err on the side of caution. Luai should have done this and the other one. He's a million dollar player, he should know better.

I think people think refs have more say on the outcome then they do. 9/10 the best team wins, regardless of the ref.

What happens if they dummy the kick, should they then be penalised and have to hand over the ball?

So the difference I can see in that image is that Luai is driving into the tackle where as Damien is avoiding the force of the collision by backing away. It did look almost identical yet there was a clear difference of the force of the impact. I think having Luai tackle Talagi a right foot kicker from the inside made it look more spectacular as well.
In terms of timing though, Luai tackles Talagi as he drops the ball for the kick where as Damien tackles Trindle as he is striking the ball.
Luai’s should actually be more acceptable as if he was to dummy and run it would be a fair tackle, similar to what he had done to Nathan in the same game.

I dont see Cook "backing away"....maybe slightly less initial force than Luais but Cook continues to move forward after impact...no backing away

Mate just call it as you see it, the game is played at full speed not super slow mo… these refs to me seem confused at all the different rule interpretations over the years. Add that into the heat of the moment and they’re bound to get things wrong.

Sorry not backing away, but he resisted the impact you see him lift his head back and release his shoulders where as Luai drives straight in.

Journalists should do their job and ask Annersley for a 'please explain' on this given the penalty in our game contributed to the end-result in a very tight competition when coaches livelihoods are the under the microscope.

Just listened to it and it wasn’t as bad as the news reports made out. He was just referring to one incident. I don’t think there will be any penalty.
