Ok, So Why Are We So Soft?

Once again we were smashed up front by the Roosters, as we have been many times in 2016 and on countless occasions over the years. By why is this? Is it attitude and can it be put down to coaching or is it a lack of big, powerful bodies in our lineups? Are there drills at training these days that promote aggression, forward momentum and bending the line? What is the problem and what can be done about it as we all agree that it's a huge hurdle that has to be overcome if we are to be taken seriously in the competition.

Attitude and we don't have an enforcer type who is smart enough not to go overboard, someone to play real hard, but within the letter of the rules.

I think though we need 2 of these type of players in the pack.

In saying that, it wouldn't surprise me if we came out and belted Souths, which will only prove how inconsistent we are and that there is indeed an attitude problem.

I can only talk from 10 yrs ago
All the promising juniors are snapped up by 15yrs old in south west area . We are left with wats left
We are and will always be an apprentiship centre

We will build this centre of excellence in MacArthur area
And the cashed up kids don't want to live in south west

We need the likes of a Greg Bird, a real hard man. Our team gets monster by teams like the Chooks, raiders and Dogs every year. A team like the Sharks that is probably much the same size as us across the paddock seem to be able to handle these sides without to much problems..why???

It is all about attitude and mental toughness

Attitude and coaching, it's all it could be. Our players can't be that bad, surely. Our forwards are decent, but when they're not on mentally they look like powder puffs.

There's always talk of the 'future', the 'future'. It has to start somewhere and investing in young juniors with 'promise' does not always yield.

If I was in charge (and if WT had the cap to afford it), I would have no hesitation in signing the below players:

Beau Scott
Greg Bird
Wade Graham
Ben Matulino
Kenny Bromwich
Sam Moa

Bird would probably be so disgusted at the effort of our blokes, that he would probably bash one of our team for not trying.
Maybe we will be the next team that will be investigated for match fixing,
They can start with last years two Knights debacles

That's a really good comparison Supercoach. The Sharks are the opposite to us. Year after year they can never be questioned for their toughness or willingness to get into the grind even though they don't necessarily have the biggest pack. They make teams work for their wins and, now, as well as having a tough, no nonsense set of forwards, they also have a lot of flair out wide. But it all starts with the pack and their attitude, not just their size or athletic ability. Furthermore, they do have one other important factor in their favor - Paul Gallen and boy could we do with a 'Gal'.

Yes, we were soft yesterday and also on other occasions but I wonder if Tim Grant and Matt Ballin were playing, if it would have made a difference. I think that it could have gone better with them in the team and the times when we fought back to within six points could have been converted into level pegging with the Roosters. Having said that, I do agree that we need an enforcer; Woodsy is a big man but seems to lack aggression but Greg Bird is not the answer. We need someone of Woodsy's size but with Bird's aggression. He isn't showing it just yet but JJ Felise could be a candidate as he grows and gains more experience.

one person or one coach isn't gonna change anything. idk what the answer is, but getting "one good backrower" isn't gonna fix the biggest issues.

we just need the team that we have now to man up a little, go hard into tackles and don't back out. the problem with forwards being thrown into the deep end too early is that they get bullied and bashed at the start of their career and figure out a survival mechanism instead of being an enforcer. the biggest example is lovett. he get battered and bruised in every run he makes, he makes negative 2m after contact and sooner or later, he's just going to start surrendering into tackles than going for a big leg drive.

Get a few of the old Fibros and Tigers hardmen in there every week to read them the riot act.

Yep this is exactly what's needed. Look what Tommy did for us last week, we played like real winners from the first hit-up. :righton:
I can't understand how this mob can be fantastic one week - and like 8yo's the next. Beggars belief :crazy

Noel Kelly was a guest of the Club during the week..

Think we have found our problem
Wests pay overs and big dollars for woods and Farah

Roosters pretty sure would pay jake friend half Robbie salary ? And look what they get in return

Broncos pay prob half for josh McGuire and watch his impact they get

Get Tommy in there to smack the bejesus out of them. He should be on the payroll if only as a motivational speaker.
