Olam's Send Off

Initial contact was with the ball like 99% of players do in the modern game.

The claim that he should have aimed for the rest of the body is an absolute joke. Are refs now dictating how players should tackle?

And ducking into a tackle like that?

I still think the shoulders clashed first as the initial point.
Interesting photo you’ve provided with the pause.
From here you can see if Olam doesn’t go around the chest, he doesn’t have many other options other then to dive at the legs; but Luki is wide, balanced, with a low centre of gravity. Olam was in a position of hit or miss.
Wish our forwards would take note.

If you look at the sualli tackle on Walsh he’s probably in the same position as photo and imo it’s due to Walsh falling. Seems the basis now is that it’s all on the tackler to make sure there’s no head contact.
With olam it was minimal imo and I can’t remember if luki went off for hia
It’s a real shame that the game is heading this way as l thought it was a fantastic tackle

He went off and ran to the sideline after play had recommenced. Agree you get hit with that force directly to the chin and he is not running , walking off unassisted.

I was disgusted with this call as at worse its on report for contact after the initial tackle to the shoulder crept up. The whiplash he got was from the force of the tackle and API slipped later and was collected high in the head but on report only.

We need a go fund me set up to let Benji unleash I pledge $100 to start

I think this photo may be misleading in the suggestion that this is the point of contact. NRL.com had an image, taken a split second later that had Olams right shoulder contacting the lower jaw and neck. Olam was on his toes, indictating that he was driving in an upward motion and at force.
Its hard to tell for sure, but I havent known Luki to be a penalty puller type and he immediately complained.
Will be interesting to see what comes of it.

If Olam hits him flush in the head, how does Luki's chin travel so far over Olam's shoulder that it's basically touching his player number?

Another soft overreaction.

Tucker they were under the pump. I agree Luki does not act like a Feldt but he was looking for a penalty to get his side further possession and field position

Not unexpected, I thought he would get the rest of the season and a game or two next year.

Just take the 3 weeks and he can be back for the game we have been looking forward to all season, Round 27, The Wooden Spoon Spectacular at Cambo against the Parra-sites.

Surely there has to be one footage which shows where the first contact was? If the first point of contact was indeed the jaw, Luki has the strongest mandible I've seen. Or Olam's shoulders have gone soft..

looks like olams feet never leave the ground..they guys 5ft 10....there has to be some onus on the ballcarrier maybe luki shouldn't crouch and tuck his chin into contact....this happens all the time now...need to fix the milking issues

Man I’ll be first to accuse anyone of going against wests as cheating but this one is clear cut imo. It was careless, dangerous and stupid. How many times have u seen olam rush out of a line to put a hit on and miss. This time he hit. Fleshy part of upper shoulder, rolled straight into lower jaw with upward force. Clear cut moron move and in today’s game will get crucified. Olam should be a senior player leading the team, instead he’s a loose bench warmer who is quickly joining the Adam Blair club of big signing duds.

Yep and he is going to cop 3-4 weeks.
We have 4 games left.
Id fight it, if we lose, send him to surgery.

And if he refuses to have the surgery, sack him, if they don't, what the he'll kind of contract did we give him.
Will we have another 2 years of one week play, 2 or 3 off, repeated for the next 2 years, and I'm not sure, but are we paying him $600.000 a season.

Fight it for sure. Sin bin at most. No way a send off. Read somewhere it was Klein in the bunker who told the referee to send Olam off. What a surprise.
I was shocked it was a send-off, at worst I was worried about being binned. I was there live.

I always considered that the benchmark for a send-off was a swinging or stiff arm, because shoulders are notoriously challenging to control for contact and can easily slide up or off other body parts or the football.

To me Olam seemed to rise into the tackle, Luki leaned in and Olam slid up into the jaw. I did not observe an attack - careless or intentional - at the jaw, but rather a shot that climbed too high. Jared Maria Hargreaves makes these kinds of rising tackles all the time and his punishment is usually sin-bin.

I just don't think that Ashley Klein has a proper feel for rugby league. He's too bookish, too black and white about rules. Isn't Klein also the one that intervened in that Cowboys game the other year where they challenged the Feldt kickoff obstruction and Klein awarded the match-turning penalty from the bunker? Typical over-reach that the Bunker should not be used for.
