On There Line

Firstly let me preface by saying this is not an attack just a viewpoint!

Our controlled game was fantastic, as has been up and down for the year.
However when we are in that good controlled mode, does anyone else get the feeling that they play a bit too plain when on their line (Eg within 10m)

Quite a few times we just did basic hitups for 4 tackles then grubber or chip bomb

I'd like to see them on the 4th and 5th maybe try a few adventurous things .

Maybe been a bit harsh but seemed qutie a few sets the goal of the set was repeat not to score then repeat if nothing comes of it.

Thats called creating pressure, patient footy.
Probably our best bet right now.

In that rainy wet weather I think it was the smart play. Get to your kick and build pressure. When you start wanting to throw cut-outs or quick hands passes mistakes happen. Just ask Slater and his cut-out pass which we scored from. If he plays short Chambers maybe scores.

My pet hate when we get close is the inside pass to a forward who never breaks the line….. Constantly saying, "That trick never works". Because it doesn't

I dont mind creating pressure and waiting for the other side to crack. It benefits you in a couple of different ways. You tire them out, create doubt in their minds and then hopefully put points on as well.

I think you will see a few more set plays once the combinations are more settled.

I like this new pressure footy as well, it shows patience which we have seriously lacked for a long time, and undoubtedly once everyone builds more confidence players will start to back themselves a bit more. We have shifted from one extreme to the other, which i find positive as it is solid base to start from and begin to inject more aggressive offence from there.

The rain in a sense has kept teams at our level and has evened games out

But we have gained a lot of confidence from our recent victories actually sticking to Potters game plans

Still think our key this week could be in the backs We should be able to match up with the Sharks forwards and will come down to how well we shut down Carney

I still think we have an edge in the outside backs and might win the game here

It’s all part and parcel of the new coaching philosophy. It’s back to basics, playing the percentages stuff. As opposed the Tim Sheens model of high risk, double or nothing, excitement\frustration plays.

Potter has to find the balance between the two. I hope he does.

I was very impressed with the smart footy we played last week, very unlike Wests Tigers, the mistakes came from Melbourne & we won As someone said the weather was bad & that was the way to beat them, we played smart for a change.

That razzle dazzle late in the count is a Sheens thing. I would also like to see the team play to the percentages. We'll still score tries such as the Ayshford one last week but to succeed in the nrl these days you've got to play smart and unrelenting. Which means play patient, never over play your hand and execute. Playing with razzle dazzle ala Sheens was rarely percentage type footy.

That was great, people forget how atrocious the conditions were. Throwing it around is NOT something you want to overextend your hand in. Keep it simple in the rain. We'll see if we can razzle dazzle em a bit this week from 20 out.

Let's not forget the fact that when a team is playing for nothing (season gone), it's hard to be the opponent if your playing for points/top 8 spot. Well after last week we seem to be playing for something now, today's game will be a test of mental toughness, this game you'll find, will determined wether we are worthy of the finals or not. Even a 1 point loss will tell me season over.

That's true, but i bet if we started throwing it around 5 times in a set of 6 we'd screw up quite a lot more. It's all about probability, in a situation we're you've made a massive break you should pass it a bit. When you're 10 out with the ball, maybe not as much. Better to create pressure and wait till they crack under the conditions.

Both clubs made about 12-13 errors that night. a lot more than normal games.
