I dont consider Liverpool "our own Territory". The fact that Dundas Shamrocks are Balmain Juniors and up the road from Bankwest doesnt make Bankwest in our territory.

In the 90's and 00's I was consulting to Canterbury LEagues (and Balmain Leagues) at the time an they were gong to build their big COE and stadium at the Whitlam Centre back then. Liverpool is Bulldogs territory.

It's super simple.

Wests have no identity or connection to any one community so its easy to attach their name on any stadium proposals and increase the usage % and therefore the likelihood of approval.

It's so short sighted and typical of this club ( and some fans).

Stick strong with a neutral at ANZ. CSS. LO.

Or the government can save some $$$$, redevelop CSS and the doggies can share that with wests. Do you think the dogs would agree to that? If not, why? apply that same logic to wests and this.

Anz will be the oldest and most outdated stadium and is not fit for purpose.

I just don't understand the governments intentions in upgrading 2 city grounds in Kogarah and brookvale - Saints only play a handful of games at kogarah, will they just walk away from the Illawarra region? And yet no upgrades to or new stadiums for the SW of Sydney. Just yesterday the govt announce a massive new land release in the Camden region with new regional centres to be built and up to 17k home sites. Some NRL team ( and it won't be the gutless nomads know as Wests Tigers ) will eventually end up in the Macarthur region and once established will reap the rewards.

Club has been shafted again here. It makes no sense to spend money on a one club one code stadium in Penrith.

If V'Landys is happy to ask the WT to share with the Bulldogs at Liverpool why not ask Penrith to share Bankwest with Parra.

And not a coin proposed to be spent on Leichhardt.

I have still yet to hear a cohesive argument against a proper upgrade of ANZ stadium to a rectangular ground similar in specifications to the new SFS but with a bigger capacity.

Being right in WT heartlands it would be the obvious answer for us but it seems we're being bullied into accepting an inferior option again.

It seems to me that the NRL are desperate to get rid of our club.

It would have helped if we picked one home ground ourselves. How can the govt help a club that's clueless in knowing it's own direction?

It's easy to be critical of the club for this but to be fair there's no real clear answer to this at the moment as the bickering on this thread clearly demonstrates.

Even leaving our situation aside he decision to divert funding from Homebush to Penrith and Brookvale/Kogarah is utterly short sighted and wasteful.

Apart from anything else the money earmarked for Homebush was due to be spent on schools and hospitals according to the Libs.

It's almost as if they're making it up as the political wind changes.

Why not just make Leichardt the our only ground ?
We realise Cambelltown and Liverpool, and Bankwest are not popular, and Leichardt is central and we have an identity there. WHY PLAY ELSWHERE ?

I don't want to lose Leichhardt altogether, but let’s get real here, Balmain was rightly there in 1908 and playing at Birchgrove in a much, much smaller city of Sydney.

It is 2021 and the city is probably ten times as vast and even more of it's supporters probably no longer live in the combined areas of WT foundation clubs.

Still, I don’t see Liverpool as the answer (and very much dogs), but cannot justify spending the dollars needed to reshape the Homebush stadium that works best for mine as a compromise either.

SFS didn’t need or warrant an upgrade

The money should’ve gone into the refurbishment of ANZ

Yeah, and although there were some structural issues in need of remedial works at the SFS, if Alan Jones and the SCG Trust political heavies hadn't gotten their grossly unnecessary amount of funds, I would have been all for the Olympic stadium revamp.

The SFS situation was a massive political bunfight. SCG Trust was trying to get Kippax Lake (not SCG property...public land) for the new stadium.

Australian Rugby League Commission boss Peter V'landys says he wants a new Bankwest-style stadium to be built at Liverpool, naming both the Bulldogs and Tigers as potential tenants.

The New South Wales state government has decided to reallocate more than $800 million in funding that was originally earmarked to upgrade Stadium Australia, with the money to instead be spent on suburban grounds.

Penrith, Brookvale and Kogarah are at the top of the list, with V'landys hopeful work could start in 2022.

"I think we can lock this in," V'landys told Radio 2GB's Ben Fordham.

"As you know there was $800 million set aside to upgrade ANZ (Stadium Australia), that's not going to happen, there will be some funds go to ANZ but the majority will be spent on suburban stadiums, the government has committed to doing business cases for three of them – Brookvale, Penrith and Kogarah.

"They will do that and once they complete (that), and I'm sure they'll be positive, they'll make announcements as to what grounds will be done. "Hopefully, construction could start within the next 12 month


While Penrith appears to be the front-runner to re-built first, V'landys explained that any of the three could be the first cab off the rank.

"We haven't decided that, that's a discussion between us and government, I'm not discounting any of them," he said.

While three existing grounds have been nominated for a re-build, V'landys also threw up the possibility of a new ground.


"We also want one out in Liverpool where we can have the Bulldogs and possibly the Tigers," he said.

"By the time the strategy is finished, New South Wales and Sydney should have some of the best sporting facilities anywhere in the world, and we deserve them."

Currently the Bulldogs play out of Bankwest and Stadium Australia, but a move to Liverpool has been touted for decades, as has a return to their spiritual home at Belmore.

The club investigated the possibility of building a stadium at Liverpool in the late-1990's, a move that was abandoned when club legend Steve Mortimer became CEO in 2002.

The Bulldogs Leagues Club already owns a site on the Hume Highway at Liverpool, adjacent to the Whitlam Leisure Centre.

The Tigers situation is even more complex. This season their Sydney home games are split between Leichhardt Oval (three matches in 2021), Campbelltown (three matches) Bankwest Stadium (three matches) and Stadium Australia (one match).

With the Balmain faction unlikely to support a full-time move to Campbelltown, and the Wests side of the joint venture similarly opposed to more games at the run-down Leichhardt Oval, a 'neutral' venue at Liverpool could be the ideal way to solve the impasse and get the club a state of the art home ground.

"The suburban stadium strategy is the right one, you want people walking to the grounds, and more importantly you want to keep the money in the local economy, you want the restaurants and the cafes to benefit from having that stadium in their local precinct," V'landys saiid,

"It also serves other sports and schools and the theatre. It's a very valuable asset for every community."
