I'd throw all my eggs in one basket and redevelop Campbelltown properly. That ground has sufficient space around it to turn it into a 30,000 seat stadium. Leagues club next door, along with a train station - easy to get onto the Hume Hwy. Logistically it makes the most sense to me to play out of there and offer 1-2 games per year at Leichhardt for sentimental value.
Gus Gould may be many things, but I don't believe he's stupid. We've under developed the south-west and Group 6 and that's a huge catchment area which would benefit from WT playing out of there consistently. By all means keep the COE at Concord, but Captain's runs and home games - Campbelltown - give the place a proper identity.
Thank God it's finally been said. The only thing this club should be doing.
West’s Campbelltown don’t own the club. Playing next to that leagues club does not benefit the owner of our club
I'm aware of that. I'm looking where the people live and where they are going to live. Theres no reason Wests Asfield can't takeover or even build something out there. Panthers were all over everything around NSW.
There is plenty of reason, Wests Campbelltown was originally part of Wests Ashfield but in the late 80's it was made independent.
Didn't the Campbelltown locals perform a coup and took over the club and distance themselves from Wests Ashfield and the Wests Tigers? Pretty sure at one stage they even wanted to change the name of the club. Or have I got it all wrong?
Campbelltown pulled out of club ownership because they felt Wests Ashfield was siding more with Balmain than them. This was when Balmain had 50% WA had 25% and WC had 25%. From memory they were upset with decisions like Balmain Ryde Eastwood being the reserve grade. WA took over their 25%
But still sponsor Wests tigers and fund the macathur nursery. Taking all home games there could bring them back on board with smart negotiations.
I wouldn't be against playing out of Campbelltown, just don't think it is a viable option, much like the Liverpool option.
