Origin selection discussion thread

Personally i don't understand this comment of "Origin type player " which gets thrown around alot by NSW selectors and media .Micheal Anus gets called this all the time yet he plays so differently to Cameron Smith , Robbie Farah , Danny Buderaus. The only Origin hooker he reminds me of is probably Steve Walters( only in niggle not ability).
Also why does NSW play players out of position so often ?? and chop and change, keep the same team for 3 games at least they might get some combinations going.

Thoughts ??

we currently have the potential to name a squad and keep them for the next 5 - 7 years depending on form

just throwin round a couple names….

Dugan
Lawrence
Idris
Hayne
Uate
Mortimer
Koote
Keating

To be "built for Origin" you need to display a fair bit of grubbiness to your game. The ability to step up to another level when things get rough and tough. Roll up the sleeves and not be afraid of a stink.
The only way N.S.W. will start to dominate in this traditional rivalry is to "bash" the Queenslanders out of contention and put fear into them.
Even if they do find the right combinations in the halves, they will still struggle, as they lack in total the ticker and intensity level the Qld side have shown the past decade.
Qld plays like they WANT it and want to do it for their state even when they are in a beaten side. N.S.W. on the otherhand is full of rockstar wannabes who do it for themselves. No ticker with no passion to their game. Body language shows this after each match. When Qld win each match, even if they've lost the series, they carry on as though they've won a Premiership. And even when they lose a dead rubber after winning a series, they carry on as though they've lost a grand final.
If they start selecting players who have this attribute and attitude, then that will go a long way in defining a formidable force for years to come.
But the modern game does not allow for this with media having such a strong influence in footy.
By selecting the "best" players in each position is not how Origin works. Never has, never will.

Chuckled when Gus Gould and Rabs went ape over his tackle early in the game claiming that would get him into Origin, if an average shoulder charge on a player who didn’t have good control of the ball and was already off balance somewhat is what they consider a great hit they really have low expectations.

am i the only one that sees the similarities?

Yeah, that shoulder charge looked okay the first time I saw it, but seeing it from another angle and you see that Ennis just happened to be in the right place at the right time. The other guy didn't have a decent grip on the ball and it only took a slight bump for it to come out.

And now the papers are saying Idris is looking like being selected. What games are they watching? He stuffed up so often in Friday night's game. He may do a few good things but that is far outweighed by all his goofs.

What about when Ennis made a tackle from 2m behind the play the ball ffs and the refs didn't blow anything. Just like in CvC where he blatantly tripped over a chaser on one of City's kicks. He gets away with a shitload under the refs discression as well.

Please, if there was a fight Ennis would be the last player to jump into it. We seen that last year when he pushed someone and ran behind his team like a little b****.

I truly believe the next time Robbie comes up against Ennis he should bash him. Its a bit old school and will see Farah suspeneded, but i think he should get Ennis one on one and put it right on him. Put the myth to sleep once and for all. I'd be prepared to have Robbie sitting on the sidelines for 2 weeks, it would be worth it.

I agree.

And LOL @ Idris. FMD.

Just saw on ten news the nsw team has been leaked again lol

the sports guy just went through a few names; off the top of my head he mentioned kimmorley is halfback, gidley fullback and cpt, hayne on wing, learoyd lahrs ….and idris is "in the squad"

thats about all he said.

Queensland should not select Thurston, Inglis, Lockyer or Civonaceva. With the rubbish NSW selectors dish up, they'll still sweep the series.

Idris on the bench, that's a Tim Sheens selection

Lyon at #6.

Perry and White in the side.

No Jennings.

They've really outdone themselves.

Idris the shoulder tackler? No Jennings, but Tahu?

Well done Qld, 5 in a row…will be cheering Lote on if he is in..

1\. Gidley (C)
2\. B. Morris
3\. Cooper
4\. Tahu
5\. Hayne
6\. Lyon
7\. Kimmorley
8\. Weyman
9\. Ennis
10\. Perry
11\. Waterhouse
12\. Creagh
13\. Watmough

14\. Idris
15\. Learoyd-Lahrs
16\. Lewis
17\. White

Numbers might be wrong, just did it in order of what they read out on Triple M

WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!

QLD will get 5 in a row. I can't believe Idris is in there. He is the most over rated fat lazy worst defender in the game.

Cooper and Lyon should never be considered for Origin after Cooper has constantly turned down the opportunity to play for country and while Lyon said in 09 or 08 he didnt want to be selected for NSW.
