Origin selection discussion thread

Matt cooper, nathan hindmarsh, jason king, timana tahu, jason king, trent barrett, Brett white

Amazed these guys could be picked. NSW have barely been able to score a point so they pick centres who cant score a 5/8 who can't create and 2nd rowers and props who can't break a tackle. I wont be watching this anymore, its beyond a joke.

I wont bad mouth Beau Scott, whilst I don't think he is nearly as classy a player as Jennings, at least he is an improvement on Tahu or Cooper who are tried and failed.

I will wait for the final 17 and try to pick two sides who would beat them players not in the 17

I don't doubt you will be able to do that with the creating flair the NSW 17 will have.

No bloody idea. Load of bird droppings.
What the ???? are they basing their choices on.
Picking players on form? I don't think so.
Picking players on last years origin form? I don't think so.
Are the NSW players really that pathetic?
So many questions without good answers.

I think I've finally sussed it…

Origin is all about Queensland...**I mean if Daley and co actually picked the best NSW players in the best positions at least they would be competitive if not win...**

If NSW dominated ...Origin would DIE....just like the original State clashes did...

Fire Up NSW....

Thats the best I've read…

The Selectors shouldnt of named Haybe and Lewis. With all these injured players, they could then bring both these players into the squad on Monday after they have served thier suspensions?!

Queensland are way smarter...

I'm more disappointed with the team than I anticipated. It may defy logic but Beau Scott is no surprise, Channel 9 commentators talk him up like he's the second coming of Christ. Nor is Matt Cooper - he can do what he wants, including watch the grass grow in game one, and he's still a walk-up start.

It seems like the NSW selectors gave up any chance of winning the game, or at least putting on an entertaining game of footy, a long time ago.

 Yes they are…but just listening to Daley dribble on then....looks like the have taken one out of Queensland's book and named them...1 to 17 TBA.... :unamused:

He aslo said Gidley is an Origin Player....that's why he's Captain....

If Daley ever had an idea in his life, it was strictly a use one-time only, and he used it a very long time ago in a galaxy far far away…

NSW have had trouble scoring points for awhile now, they will struggle more with this line up IMO.

unless pierce puts on a johns-like performance and becomes the next nsw messiah, we'll get pumped.
this team looks like dribble

When the Tigers realise they wont be able to survive in Sydney, and choose to re-locate to a new city, they will still be linked to the Proud Tigers emblem and I Hope you will continue to support them while they are elsewhere, just like many other supporters will.

 Dream On!!!

Gidley got the game ball as players player in game one.

Was probably sooking in a corner and got it as a pity award. That or maybe every NSW player is as touched as Daley

This team is actually weaker than the team for round one. An achievement which I thought was not possible!

Pearce is mediocre, there's no hope there. Combined with Barrett, this has to be the worst halves combination in the history of Origin. How did Kurt Gidley become a protected species? And Ennis.. Ennis has been ordinary all year, was ordinary in Origin 1 and got trampled over by Robbie at his last start. I thought the only excuse for picking him was that he was Kimmorley's club dummy half. What's their excuse for picking him now??? This side has no attack - they must be hoping for a nil-all draw.

Putting my WT prejudices aside (quite an effort) I really can't believe that Michael Jennings didn't get in. (Or Robbie Farah, Chris Lawrence, Bryce Gibbs or Chris Heighington (ahhh there go my WT prejudices again.)

We used to tell ourselves that the reason WT players rarely made origin was because our team wasn't going well in the premiership. Now here we have a NSW team that has more players in it from the bottom half of the premiership ladder than the top. And no players at all from either WT or Souths, both running equal-third. It's just ridiculous. If they keep on picking the same players, NSW will keep on losing.

The biases of the selectors are quite obvious to me , why hasn't there been any comment on this in the media?.

Daley (St George) - continual picking St George players (although he may have an argument that theyre on top of the comp).

Fulton (Manly) - there is always manly players there. This year he picks a fat Perry then replaces him with King. Neither are the form props. I reckon Lyon going to 5/8 was some selection room deal.

Mcarthy - I suspect he is the Bulldog connection. Someone might be able to confirm this. I know he did play for them.
Why else would you pick a 19yr Idris whos defence is suspect? and , of course ennis.

Bellamy (storm)- This year he persists with white. Last SOO he looked like he was running in wet cement.

Until NSW gets some selectors with no agendas and a non-aligned coach we will continue to get these sort of teams.

IMO the fact that they couldn't even name the team from 1 to 17 was disgraceful. Are they so undecided that they couldn't just name it and THEN make any necessary changes after the judiciary hearings and injury checks? NRL clubs have to do it all the time, but the NSW selectors couldn't. What a joke! It makes them look even more incompotent than they already are, if that's possible.

Do you reckon it is better to bet on QLD now or wait until next Wednesday when NSW are somehow determined to be the favourites?

QLD Team Game 2

1\. Billy Slater (Melbourne Storm)
2\. Darius Boyd (St George Illawarra Dragons)
3\. Greg Inglis (Melbourne Storm)
4\. Willie Tonga (North Queensland Cowboys)
5\. Israel Folau (Brisbane Broncos)
6\. Darren Lockyer © (Brisbane Broncos)
7\. Johnathan Thurston (North Queensland Cowboys)
8\. Matthew Scott (North Queensland Cowboys)
9\. Cameron Smith (Melbourne Storm)
10\. Dave Shillington (Canberra Raiders)
11\. Nate Myles (Sydney Roosters)
12\. Sam Thaiday (Brisbane Broncos)
13\. Ashley Harrison (Gold Coast Titans)

14\. Cooper Cronk (Melbourne Storm)
15\. Ben Hannant (Canterbury Bulldogs)
16\. Neville Costigan (St George Illawarra Dragons)
17\. Dave Taylor (South Sydney Rabbitohs)

18th man - Jharal Yow Yeh (Brisbane Broncos)

Except for 7c/l a full strength side.
Am I right in saying that they go against their principles to pick Folau but they uphold their principles and not pick Lote?
Hypocrites.

Im finding it hard to work out what their thought process was when they picked this side. On the one hand they couldve have not picked Lote because they were punishing him because they pick Israel. And on the other hand they are not leaving him out because they are looking to the future as Israel is not part of the future.
All I can think is that they picked Falou ahead of him only because he played in game 1 and they always stick loyal and wanted to keep the same team. And then when it comes to picking Yow Yeh over him they are looking to the future and picking him there as they believe that hell be playing for them in years to come.

Well they stuck with the winning team, what would you do ! As for the members of the Tigers who weren't picked for NSW or Qld, now they can take their revenge by winning the NRL Grand Final - simple !
