So we have 7 rounds remaining for this abortion of a season and we find ourselves at the completion of round 20 sitting stone motherless last.
7 more chances to elevate ourselves from the spoon…a spoon that this squad likely deserves based on the fact they have had a better go at the comp this year than the class of 2022 who received it with several decent excuses appropriate.
Of the final 7 rounds we have St George in Wollongong, the Rabbits out of town in Tamworth, the Raiders down in freezing Canberra, the Warriors in NZ, the Dolphins at Commbank, Roosters at Allianz, and Manly at 4 Pines.
A win next week against a heavily depleted Dragons will put us both on 14 points. We are currently in arrears of them by 62 points on for and against. To avoid the spoon, not only do we require the win, but it needs to be a good one. We have more floggings coming our way this year which will hurt our for and against. Rabbits, Warriors and Roosters will all run a train through us. Raiders and Manly should also win well. Dolphins will be closer. Saints also have some floggings on the way so we will rely on that to grow their differential but in essence we really need to win 2 games to be sure we avoid the spoon Id say. Assuming we beat Dragons, that second win is our new grand final….Dolphins in round 25.
Who would of thought before this season began that we may need to beat the brand new franchise in round 25 to ensure the spoon doesn’t come here again…and that win seems decidedly unlikely?
Of course, should Saints do us next week, the argument and mathematics will be all but over….
With not much left to look forward to, this is the only positive events that I envision. Missing the spoon by no means equals anything too positive, but not coming dead last is something. Can we achieve it?
