And itā€™s a shame because our defence at some stages this season has actually looked really good. I donā€™t know what happened, but now theyā€™re back to being hopeless again. Doesnā€™t help with players being swapped and changed out every second game (mostly due to injury) but thereā€™s no denying this a very poorly coached side.

The Knights ran a block play in slow motion yesterday and somehow created space on the wing even when we were marked up properly. As you said, mind boggling.

That ponga try is something youā€™d see in Div 3 footy on a Sunday.
Itā€™s not like itā€™s one player making a bad defensive read .
Itā€™s whole backline .
From wingers to the halves all just moving backwards and having no idea what to do.

While it looks like our wingers can't defend the problem is our halves and our line speed.

Most teams have two competent halves who are not afraid to put their bodies in front of charging back-row forwards, and are switched-on enough to check the attacker before committing to a decision if they feel the ball player is going out the back to a sweep runner.

We don't have the line speed to make the opposition play early and we don't have halves that are confident or competent in the modern defensive structure. We try to wedge in like Melbourne/Penrith and then start to back off.

This is caused by a combination of trust in your inside man, poor execution of the defensive plan under pressure (trust in ones self) and attitude.

Without a competent halves pairing in defence our outside backs have too much to deal.with, and having TT out there doesn't add much either.

Getting our halves right for 24 is essential.

Canā€™t tell you how many times I scream at the TV about our line speed ,or dramatic lack of .
I agree,having Smith and Walkeham as our halves was always going to be a disaster.

While we have been lauding our pack the line speed is set by them so a lot of work to be done there in the off season!

My TV must feel abused ike yours.
 
To be honest they deserve the spoon. At least if they get it there won't be back patting and statements around an "improved season". This gets worse before it gets better in my opinion. That's if it actually gets any better for a couple of years (doubtful).

It wouldn't be that bad if it was only back to back spoons but I think we are on track for 3 in a row and if things don't change soon we could give Parramatta's 6 spoons in a row a pretty good nudge, Souffs have 3 in a row in the NRL era and I'm pretty sure we can equal that and most likely beat it.

We just need to put our trust in our board and management team, that they will be steadfast and will be here to steer the ship on the right course, we just need to keep the faith. šŸ¤”
 
Just realised that I was wrong, Newcastle have 3 in a row in the NRL era.

Souffs won it in 2003, 2004, 2006 I think. Looks like 2005 was an aberration.

An aberation for us as well winning the Grand Final.

It is what it is, and what it is has mostly been self inflicted.
Donā€™t forget, this shit began in earnest at the end of 2021 when Canterbury, the 21 spooners, butt-slammed us 38 to blot and then we had an ā€œall encompassing internal reviewā€ that resulted in the powers that be deciding to not move Madge on, but actually extend him. They then rissoled him 13 weeks into his new contract that didnā€™t expire until the end of this year and put BK in as caretaker with no support, whilst trading players from underneath his nose during an horrendous injury crisis.

If the carryon last year wasnā€™t bad enough, we have hit season 23 with renewed vigour and big promises from a squad boasting arguably our best ever forward pack and have achieved lessā€¦donā€™t forget, we won 4 games last year with a far worse team. Yes it is distressing, but we have the power to achieve one thing this year and thatā€™s move off the bottom.

If they have any fight left in them, they beat Dragons next week, and beat them well, whilst eyeing a second win against the Dolphins a month later to make sure of it. That is all we have to look forward to.
 
Please donā€™t put WT and GF in the same sentence, not possible. Heck will be another 4 yrs + until maybe able to put WT & SF in the same sentence. Will take this long before they realise they have been doing it all wrong and have NFI!

The powers that be will never admit that they are the problem,they would rather sacrifice others to cover their guilt.Despots never step down and we have an abundance of them in all the wrong places

Iā€™ve said it before, but Sheens, Benji, and Robbie all have beef with this club over their exits. Wouldnā€™t it be ironic if this is their revenge - burning the place to the ground and salting the earth, and getting paid handsomely whilst doing so
