Our best and worst WT coaches

@ said:
1\. Sheens is obviously first, delivered us the only final appearances and silverware we've ever had.

2\. Pearce went well to start off with, fell away after someone broke a mirror in the gym and everyone got injured and Melbourne decided to end the career of our best player.

3\. Cleary has got the uncoachables competing for 80 minutes. Will likely be #2 after next year, may be #1 when his tenure here is finished. Who knows at this point.

4\. Potter went OK with limited cattle, was overruled on decisions, team crippled by injury and his run in with Farah mortally wounded him and couldn't get the team to lift after that.

5\. JT had the right idea, was just a poor man manager and could have handled things better. Results didn't follow from his strategy and he couldn't/wouldn't adapt his plans. He was probably the unintentional hatchet man we needed, although many will contest that.

6\. Lamb was abominable. Devoid of ideas and an awful squad that won less than a third of our games it was certainly our darkest time in the clubs history, topped off with our winger publicly indulging in amateur proctology.

Interestingly enough Cleary has the worst winning percentage of all our coaches at the moment.

Well said

its ironic that taylor is rated so highly by the roosters.either as a defensive coach or attacking coach,
i suppose he is an effective assistant coach but doesnt have the management skills for the top job.
potter was unlucky, pearce did some good things and lamb was still one of the boys.
everyone on this forum rates sheens so highly and deservedly so.
but every coach would appear to have a use by date- bellamy seems to be an exception to the rule ,though.

It just shows how starved for success we are when a coach with a 5 and 12 record is considered by some as our second best coach ever.

1)Sheeens - Won us our only GF and turned the club around when he became coach in 2003
2) Ivan - By far the most accomplished coach after Sheens and could become #1 in the next 3 years.
3) Taylor - Tried his guts out but was hampered by an over paid roster and Farah incident.
4) Potter - why on earth he took on this job, he had NO support from the board or management…Out of his depth too.
5) Pearce - Out of his depth, great players don't always become great coaches!
6) Lamb - Wow, worst coach since the Allan Jones appointment(Balmain days).

I considered Pearce an excellent first grade player but not a great player, I was a magpie supporter at the time so only a partial interest. He was rated no. 99 in that book of 101 great RL players.

I don't think we are getting to the heart of things.

Remember under Lamb, we were well and truly in the top 8 sides. Sadly he had an immature attitude and let Hopoate get away with a dirty act. Yes he should have gotten the can for it but you should judge his whole coaching approach (he did have success till Hopa was banned).
Taylor is far too highly rated if he is at 3\. He knows how to coach a team set up the exact way he wants. Can't player manage, can't think outside the box.
