Our Cap situation.

Guys,

I know we have probably been over this before, but I'm trying to understand how our current situation is so bad.

I know back ended contracts are a contributing factor but didn't anyone see this coming?

I can't for the life of me, understand how this happened…..

To be in a situation where we can't sign anyone for two years, is going to kill me.

Might be in everyone's best interests if the club finally came clean with members/fans over its exact cap financial and player recruitment situation. Maybe a meeting between the acting CEO, Board members, club coaching staff and interested club members and fans where questions can be asked and answered is the way to go.

As I wrote on another thread, with Te Marie Martin having being confirmed as a signing for Penrith It's bargain time in the Wests Tigers cellar and the only players which other clubs will take from us are the most promising ones. These clubs will bleed us dry in no time. For goodness sake a respectful explanation to supporters about the disgraceful state of affairs is needed from Wests Tigers Management. We won't get any reasonable explanation however because we are treated and considered as less than nobodies.

We as fans have to stand up and be heard by Wests Tigers management or we will continue to be treated as nobodies. I have a number of suggestions starting with a one common letter from all Wests Tigers supporters to Wests Tigers management stating that we will not renew membership unless we receive a respectful reply to our questions.

It's a tough situation. I'm sure the current administration want to come out and point the finger directly as some of our past CEOs for getting us into this mess. But if they do that, it will go through the media and we will be even more unattractive to players looking to move.

I like how the Panthers handled it. Quietly fixing and re-building by buying underrated players. Hopefully the serious shedding this year might get us in the position that we need to be in to rebuild sooner rather than later. I think we will look back and call Phil Moss our best buy in 2-3 years.

Why would we come out and let every other club know our cap situation ??

Cmon peeps , think before we speak

Meanwhile penriff aren't getting rid of talented players like we are!
If you want to rebuild a club keep the promising juniors, let the crap go!
Also get rid of kimmorely and fletcher go to hell…
Start with some good up and coming coaches first the 2 above have had their day, and it was crap....

Every club already has got a very good knowledge of where our CAP is. We have let go so many good and promising players go and have not signed any new players. Wests Tigers announced quite some time ago that they won't be signing any new players until at least 2017\. None of the clubs need spies to have this knowledge.

One piece of info is basically unofficial

Come out and tell all the members exactly where we stand it is official

Big difference Newtown

I doubt there are many secrets in Rugby League any more what with players and officials having mates at other clubs, player agents continually looking out for a better deal for their charges and so on. I suspect most if not all clubs leak like sieves.

I don't go out of my way to tell my workmates or any of my oppositions workmates mine or anyone else's salaries , do you ??

Why, because Parra who were over the cap sign Foran on $1.2mill, Scott on plenty and Gordon, plus re-sign a stack as well paying Watmough a motza.
Yet we on the other hand a team who have let go 10 nrl players in the last 12 months, and signed Drinkwater, Peni,Lodge and Kev, something is not right, and the paying members deserve to know what the hell is happening.

I dont think Te Maire moving to Penrith is purely cap pressure.

You cant commit heavily to youngsters in the same spot that are yet to be proven, we have committed to Moses, who lets face it, had all the same fan fare as Te Maire as currently.

A young half on the way through is all that the Panthers were missing on their junior development path.Stacks of promising backs and a couple boom back rowers in Cartwright and Yeo, plus some proven performers around that.

I think they might already know!

So Nathan Milone knows or cares what Cameron Smith is earning exactly ??

Back to reality I think

Happy, we are talking about Wests Tigers overall CAP situation not how much Smith or Farah are earning. The reality is that there are many who cannot see how the NRL can close their eyes to the obvious overall rorting being carried out by most other clubs whilst we have to stay lilywhite due to the NRL who controls our club, Wests Tigers, continually looking over our shoulder for any slight CAP discrepancy.

Surely WT would have to lodge financial statements like any other income generating organisation. Yet there seems to be no record of them doing so anywhere. Wdsts Group and Balmain both have full financial statements that can be easily accessed. Why not WT. Maybe someone with more of a taxation or accounting background could shed some light on why this occurs.

When push come to shove every player wants to earn every cent they can

By telling others even at our club what you are earning with or without TPA's defeats that purpose

Plus anyone involved in recruitment will tell them that what they have heard is BS anyway

It isn't in anyone's interest for others to know what they are earning , especially when you see what has happened at the Dogs ,Melbourne etc

If what players say they are earning doesn't add up with the NRL will come snooping and no player wants that

As I said previously a bit of common sense would be nice

I posted this in another thread .

It's hard to fathom where all the money is going. In 2014 we received 7.5 million as our NRL grant. Wests Ashfield funded 2.2 million as per their financial report and the NRL paid 4 million to cover Balmains missed contributions. That's a total of somewhere between 13.5 and 14 million. Add income from merchandise, memberships and ANZ enticements which would probably add up to another .5 million.
We must have run up a hell of lot of debt if we are struggling to find money.

Its all about money and has been for a few years, but no team comes out and tells the world their broke, it scares off sponsors, players and punters. So they keep giving us spin that the cap was in a massive mess and it is going to take another year to clean up the mess. By 2017 they hope to have cleared up some debt so they can than hit the market place, but the hole will be probably bigger on the back of two disastrous years. I think they are in a downward spiral that is gaining momentum and will take a miracle to stop it

It's because the clubs are non-profits and Wests Tigers is a private corporation.
Clubs like the Broncos will release their EOY statements because they are a Public organisation.

You might see WT somewhere on the Club statements as a subsidiary. I think that's only if one club has a controlling interest (>50%) that they have to display the full assets/liabilities. Otherwise I think they just declare a valuation of their % holding.

I'm in finance, but I'm not an accountant. Someone might be able to correct me on that finer detail above.
