Our Defence is Hopeless

I loved the game, good win! But one thing that worries me is our defence, we have conceded 132 points in 5 games, that is the second worst in the comp.

Whilst I tend to agree with you Milky (a little) I think we have to remember that against the warriors and today late, our edge defenders were playing out of position due to injuries. Akouola was caught out twice wide I believe.
Still you make a valid point

We let tries in when we know we have already won the game like against the Rabbits and today Against the Sea Eagles.

Looks worse on paper than it actually is in my opinion.

Write off the first game, we were just around appalling.

Against Souths and Manly we conceded late when the game was beyond reach. Warriors game there were injuries and quite a few tries from kicks.

Think we will be ok when the game is on the line.

Milky your on the money we need to be more ruthless although as tigersman points out we clock off when we have big leads and as Dazza points out the warriors was injury more than anything. In saying this milky is dead right we won't hold our position on the ladder if we concede 27 points a game, more confident this year than last though.

One try after the bell at halftime and the other when Ava was down. Im okay with our D this week.

Right side defence was a bit dodgy. Nofo struggled with Matai, but most do. Also teddy injury forced reshuffle with Simona to back so i can forgive them today. Great win against a tough team.

I thought they defended well. Manly had trouble getting out of their own end when they had the ball. The two tries at the end were due to positional changes more than anything else

The Defence is not as bad as the scores say. The two late tries for Souths, the Hurrell onslaught and the Matai tries were all largely due to injuries causing our defence to reshuffle.

Not many teams can handle 1-2 players going down with injury..

The problem is entirely with us having too many injuries. We seem to be averaging about 2 players going off injured per game.

I wouldn't say our defence is hopeless. How did we win by such big margins against Titans, Souths and Manly?
Having said that. I would say that there is always room for improvement with every side in this competition. West Tigers is a young team which is still in the learning phase and if they learn and apply as they go along they will, as Gould said towards the end of the channel 9 telecast, be certainly a force to be reckoned with.

DEfence could always be better obviously, but our major problem is we need to improve our ability to reshuffle defence to be effective when we lose a player to injury. Improving adaptability will be very important, particularly if we manage to reach the finals.

You have to take into consideration the injury to Tedesco

Again we had a part time centre in the centres and Manly with the mass of possession they had in the 2nd half they targeted us relentlessly on our right

We have just beaten two of the leagues powerhouses in the last three weeks and people are whinging

Over-reaction IMO….

Our points conceded so far has been mostly inflated by the Rd 1 performance and last week when Teddy went off and our defensive structures fell to pieces as a result.....2 of the tries today were also scored with teddy off the field and one where seumanufagai was down in back-play after an injury.....

IMO our defence has improved markedly since last season with blokes making good reads and sticking after initial contact.....i think we're mastering the wrestle too which has given our D line sufficient time to reset, last year we had absolutely no control over the ruck at all.....Stats are like bikinis, they don't tell the full story and i think you've looked into them too much here milky

To be honest I'm only giving manly 12 points. You can't scored tries on a play after the siren sounds.

I think our defense still requires a lot of improvement. Though in saying that, we have conceded a lot of points in defensive reshuffles due to injuries. Injuries happen but it's not often you lose an outside back pretty much every week.

As above and the hand of god try ruling to Manu last week did not help us in stopping the roll on and run of possession.

I'm somewhat with Milky here. Won't call the defence hopeless, but still cause for some concern.

It's a work in progress, but if we are in the hunt at the business end of the year, we can't be the team that concedes back to back weak tries. Nor the team that lets in the speculators, that is now half-time siren tries in consecutive weeks.

As has been said, it is our inability to adjust to an injury that is our worst area. Players out of position do a very ordinary job of marking up, the opposition push straight to that side and score - Warriors did it several times last week, Manly x 2 today, Souths x 2 prior.
