Our forward pack vs. Storm pack

So it comes down to coaching simple structures and having defined jobs, and the forwards working together as a team. We have the personnel, but not the structure or the desire. Surely Potter can look at the structures and the forwards need to take a good look at themselves and play as a team on a consistent basis. They do it on occassion only.

Buck up Tigers, put in for the man next to you. Show pride in the jersey, and dont let any of the b**stards on the other team get on top. Harden up.

We just need to play the field position game alot better. Too often we suffer from attacking insanity that is more risk than reward, and from alot further out than we should be even considering it. Playing percentages wont castrate the attacking flair but will mitigate the damage suffered via field position when it does go pear shaped.

Too often we hedge out bets on long odds instead of backing our defence for field position a set or 2 down the line. Dont kid yourself thinking we can model our game off the storm, its not our style, though we can and should focus on the minute details and the rest should fall into place.

I think the forwards apart from Anasta were not the worst out there against the Knights. The Knights scored all their points through the backs. Although the Tigers forwards penetration wasn't great but it wasn't what lost the game. Lack of respect for possession through dropped balls and bad kicks etc did.

Easy put Marshall in NSW Cup until he wakes up to himself and learns how to respect the team and club again. Unfortunately not his fault but the club making him bigger.

While his dropped the team will naturally play structured and learn that benji saviour isnt there… After six rounds bring marshall back with no duties eg kicking to 5/8th the way he started........,

The Storm forwrds always have a crack, they always get back to tka hitups, maybe its a fitness thing? Bellamy has this habit of making average good to great. I too would take Jesse Bromwich, when does his contract come up?

They employ a sort of 'citadel' policy at the Storm. They pool all their resources into 3 core players and fill the rest of the team with virtual unknowns. But somehow they have an endless list of unknowns at the Storm who can all step up when required. They're all average players - even Cronk isn't actually that remarkable as a player, yet somehow he's one of the top 3 halves in the comp. That's some pretty good coaching. It's like Bellamy's in league with the devil.

Definitely the Storm pack get great direction from the #9 and #7, and great structure from the coach.

But one thing that really stands out to me, and 'shmeister alludes to it, is their enthusiasm and their commitment to their position and their role.

Their defensive line speed is generally excellent. They really hustle to get back into position after making or attempting to make tackles - I mean they REALLY try hard to do this. They also get into position much quicker in attack.

Meanwhile at WT, our line speed regularly drops off to nothing and other teams roll over us set after set, making 50-60m at will.

We don't get back into position leaving holes around the ruck.

We don't slide as a unit, leaving our wide defenders isolated and vulnerable.

And we certainly don't get back for early hit-ups, allowing Utai to do his best Koro to get beat up.

Our blokes in comparison are NOT having a proper dig!!

I go as far as saying billy slater is all that melb side needs…. he is amazing... knows how to break the line, support players, find the try line and returns the ball putting the storm in an attacking position on tackle 1....
molzten does none of these....
Barba is very similar to slater in how strong of a fullback he is and it pretty much bankrolled the dogs season last yr.... same as brett stewert at manly...

He runs the show down there, it all starts with him….hes a brilliant organising half

lets put it this way slater is to the storm as farah is to the tigers we and they win more when there on the field remember when melbourne had that slump from round 16 to round 21 were they lost 5 games in a row. slater only played 1 of those games.

Cronk is amazing, there is nothing ordinary about him at all.

The other one I hear all the time is Cronk is just a well coached average player who has developed from no where, it is simply not true.

He was the best Rugby School boy in the country in 2003, went to league and in his first year was very strong in QLD cup, 2 years later he was the test Half and Dally M half of the year.

He has always been a star.

People say they have these "no names" it is not entirely true, for most of their run they were jammed packed full of players with reputations as they ignored the salary cap, even last year they were still benefittting from there cheque book recruitment as a number of their juniors arrived there under that system (Proctor, Widdop etc)
