I remember the Gold Coast trying to keep Rogers. A pizza shop owner wanted to get a number of local businesses together to pay him extra outside the cap. Got knocked on the head.
Only good for the rich clubs?

"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others".

The issue would of been the minute in went public it is illegal

The have a third party deal , you become a silent partner of the player and that's it

That's why pumping 300 k for one player when you get little out of it bar happiness that your club is better off isn't easy

If throw in some coin for it! I'm a poor student, but got a job and this would be something worth cutting a doz of beer off my budget each week for!

While I would be happy to throw a share in I personally think their are better ways of the money being spent. If we were to get some money together we would be better off putting it into improved facilities or extra money towards driving memberships, etc as this would help improve the club overall and as such drive long term improvement.

For example if we put $100K as a donation each year into training facilities then soon the club would have leading edge facilities. This is how other organisations such as private schools, charities , youth clubs do it. They have appeals and are focused on a particular building or type of improvement.

I think the idea of retaining a future star is that they have potential to put bums on seats and drive membership which brings in $$ , but I know what your saying with regard to investing a lot of coin in to one person…who 'knock on wood' could end their career with injury at any time like yow yeh, tuiaki ... Heres hoping he stays though!
