Our search for a 7 is over !

Preaching to the converted there big fella….how good are the passes he throws? Hard flat and direct. Gives his runners plenty of time to do something with the ball and when an overlap is on he always gets the ball there quickly.

With a halves combo of him and Benj we are a top 4 team

Stryker interesting comment re Tim's passes. I actually thought tonight wasnt one of his best passing games. I will have to watch the tape again.

he played pretty well tonight didnt he? i liked how he attacked the line in the first half that time too.
i like lui, but moltzen showed tonight he is the man right now for 7….
on a side note, i saw just earlier that john morris is at half for the sharks this week!

I'm a fan of Moltzen, but he was close to inconsequential in the win tonight. A massive difference was Ryan at fullback, who was fantastic. Using last night's match to strengthen the claims for Moltzen at halfback and to continue the vendetta against Lui are totally ill-founded.

There's almost no doubt in my mind that Lui will finish his career with more accolades than Moltzen. Hopefully it's with us.

That my view Timmy.

lol, are you serious? moltzen @ 7 is EXACTLY what our team needs, we dont need another of the cuff ball player like lui, sorry but moltzen plays the role beautifully and we look SOOOOOO much better with him there then lui, moltz can read the game knows when to run and when to give early ball, im sorry but in no way does lui suit the team better then moltzen

Sorry, but in my view there was no evidence from last night's game that Moltzen is a better fit at halfback than Lui. I would say of all three matches this year, our attack looked its most stilted. Moltzen picked out Hayne on almost every kick, not to mention one an attacking kick that cannoned into the legs of the Parramatta players and could have been match defining - at that point we were down 15-12.

You can laugh at that view all like, but in my eyes you have very, very little credibility. You were one of the loudest calling for the crucifixion of Robert Lui. Trotting out the Moltzen 6/6 statistic is utterly meaningless. As has been repeatedly pointed out, the record with Moltzen outside the fullback position is also 6/6\. For me, that is the significant factor.

I'd be playing:
1\. Ryan
6\. Marshall
7\. Lui
14\. Moltzen

Very rough on Moltzen, but until he learns to puts his body on the line at fullback, he isn't the best player in any position at the club.

well im ot soley basing it on lastnights game im using the other 5 games (one where he was man of the match) that we have won with him there as my argument too, hes a halfback mate and a damn good one and at this stage lui aint even close to moltz

So you agree that the pretext of this threat - that last night was proves Moltzen is the answer at halfback - is rubbish?

I agree with this 100%. That being said, the team seems to do well with Tim at 7\. I am loathe to change that.

Not willing to laud Moltzen as the answr yet just as I was not willing to admonish Lui after two games.

It takes consistancy and working when things are not going your way to prove the spot is yours.

All I know is he should never play fullback again

I also agree. We had another halves combination 6/6 from memory:
6\. Fulton
7\. Morris

Does everyone want that back? The good record, while it's great, doesn't mean they our best halves combo.

Yep. The problem is that the Moltz at 7 supports trot out the win statistic as if it definitely proves Tim should be at 7\. It simply doesnt.

Far out southern…

Watching the game right now.....

30 min mark..

Has been first 1 down on kick chase evey time...just pushed Hayne into touch
kicked for Ayshford's try...who had plenty of work to do...great TRY
two great long kicks....take it off Benji too...
His service for Benji has been very good as well as his link with the forward when it wasn't coming of Farah....
Has taken the line on on 4 occasions...
nice blind side right plays with Ayshford and Brown...wait till Fulton's back....
He aslo picked up a knock during the game and was stuggling on the wing for a time....but guts it out and finished strong....

What more do you want.....He has performed better in the 7 jumper in 30mins than he has in most games at fullback...

Moltzen @ 7....what more do you want.....

Dont necessarily disagree with that Geo. I have said that he had a good game. But I dont think its controversial to say he wasnt the difference between the two sides.

I stand by my view that he doesnt have the complete game of a natural 7 but he will do well.

Last night shows that Moltzen is better off playing closer to the line. Not necessarily as the best halfback..
Also shows that Moltzen is also able to take some pressure off Marshall to produce his best with the attacking raids giving the team another dimension instead of the continual lateral shift of the ball. Thus proving to be an excellent combination at 6 and 7 where Tim knows not to overplay his hand.
Either way, if Moltzen is ever hailed the best player at the club to play at fullback again i will deadset eat Gibbo's footy shorts!!

Im with smeg on this. Im not sold either way on moltzen or Lui, im happy to give either the chance. I do however not want moltzen at fullback ( i think this was the difference last night).

Everyone saying that moltzen was throwing direct flat passes and not being an off the cuff player is correct, but that is exactly what Lui was doing. I don't understand why moltzen has unanimous support yet Lui gets 2 or 3 different threads calling for his sack. It seems on this forum that Lui has to be a game breaker and play ad lib to stay in the team whilst moltzen is allowed to play a good solid game. IMO Both are good options, lets just wait and see who turns into the best in the longterm, as its too early to call.

I think those critising southern need to look at what he is saying, he isnt claiming moltzen isn't a good player, he is just saying that he wasn't the difference between the win (view i support).

HaHa neither do I….but he contributed to the win.....just pointed out the things he did cause I watched him closely on replay....

Interseting comments from Jnr Pearce on the NRL pre game show today....saying Moltzen to 7 allowed Benji to be more comfortable to do his thing...

Now I'm not saying in time Lui couldn't do the same thing...I just feel that Moltzen and Marshall have that now...it will get better...
