Panthers style clean out?

Gus Gould has been ridiculed for two years,..but he has basically turned that team over to all their young players gradually and changed the team's culture.

The senior blokes were not putting in and the culture was all wrong…Jennings thought he was a star and bigger than the club...so Gus punted them. Now, they have a bunch of young blokes who are building their own culture without having to defer to the older players. Sound familiar?

It is pretty much exactly what we need. The team by 2015 needs to **belong** to Brooks, Siro, Moses, Woods, Teddy etc. It is hard to do that with older blokes still around who have their own culture...particularly if that culture is a bad influence.

Side note: i dont particularly like penrith, but it would almost be worth seeing them win a comp just to see what that muppet Rothfield has to say after tearing Gus apart for his actions.

Theyre still only in year one of their cleanout…..it takes several years.

People seem to think its a few weeks job

They are in year two. Started the ball rolling last season, blooded a few young blokes…..now moving guys on again this season like Walsh....tonnes of money under the cap free to find players to support their next generation.

By 2014 they should be a semi final team. By 2015 who knows.

They have some very good young players. Ours are better though.

Side note: the best crop of youngsters from any club the past few years has been the Warriors. They are basically a prime example of how not to bring young kids through / terrible culture destroying kids careers before they even get rolling.

There's a few people around who have a crack at Gus, but he is doing something pretty special a Penrith. They will be a top 8 team next year. We could do worse than to take note.

Penrith, made some hard calls and flicked some big names, got them self the most under rated coach in the game, got them self some good journey men and mixed them with some quality kids, worked out a plan for the way forward and most importantly got everyone in the club pulling in the same direction. As Gould said they will be the top club in the NRL within five years

The clean out for us is happening by way of natural attrition. The concern for me and gus mentioned it in commentary is that we don't burn youngsters - look at some of the feedback on Koro's game.

what did they do?

We probably could do with a few players going perhaps but you have to remember Penrith have been horrible for longer than we have.
There's no doubt our roster was amazing 2/3 years ago in terms of form.
It's a coaching failure not to get the best out of the potential talent we have. Cleaning out completely like Penrith wouldn't fix much.

I think a coaching staff clean up would do more good than a player one.
We are abysmal in defense and we aren't as fit or strong as other teams, our injury situation is horrible.
Sure, clean out our back row but if we have the same staff developing them we won't have results longer than a year even with "good" buys.
