Parental Advice

Maybe introduce them to a new hero…..Bandage Man!!
ET usually has a bandage on some head wound by half time of every game. You could wrap your kids heads to match.

In 2006 my nephew asked me to take him to a Wests Tigers game and he said he
wanted to be a WESTS TIGERS supporter. I said ok , so i took him to the game.
Once we got to ANZ stadium , i took him to the merchendise stand and baught him a jacket.
In doing so, i said to him , once you put this jacket on there's no turning back. no matter
where the team is , if its first , or if its last , if it has good players , if it has bad players,
no matter what the circumstances are , you will remain a Wests Tiger for life.
he said YES I PROMISE, and has never looked back.

My kids THREE favourite Wests Tigers players are: Kevvie [hair], Woodsy [beard], Teddy [nickname]! How can I keep them interested in the Wests tigers when they leave? When Benji and Robbie left I managed to convince them with an argument along the lines of… 'Well, Benji and Robbie are old and slow and the Wests Tigers only want the fastest and the strongest players'. What do I tell my kids about Woodsy and Teddy leaving?

supporting a sporting team is beneficial to kids for quite a few reasons.
it teaches them that they cant simply win every time (much needed today imo) amongst other things.
it also teaches that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and a collective headed the same direction can achieve amazing things.

two of their favourite players have left, but I'm sure they will soon pick out new favourites; its the natural sporting circle of life.
you shouldnt have to coerce them in any way. personally i dont think you should even try.
you watch the tigers so they are naturally predisposed to be attracted to supported to them as well, but is there really any reason to think they will choose another team?

and if they do choose other teams, so what? having those games where it is the tigers vs their team can be just as fun…. its only sport.
