Interesting results with our teams in the games. Usually we claim some medals from them all but this tournament has not been as kind to us.

BASKETBALL
  • Boomers, FIBA ranked 5th in the world, exited the tournament in the quarter finals.
  • Opals, FIBA ranked 3rd in the world, are still alive in the semi finals.
SOCCER
  • Olyroos, FIFA ranked 24th in the world, failed to qualify for the tournament.
  • Matildas, FIFA ranked 12th in the world, failed to get out of the group stage.
HOCKEY
  • Kookaburras, FIH ranked 6th in the world, exited the tournament in the quarter finals.
  • Hockeyroos, FIH ranked 5th in the world, exited the tournament in the quarter finals.
RUGBY 7's
  • Men's team, SVNS ranked 4th in the world, lost in playoff for Bronze - came 4th.
  • Women's team, SVNS ranked 2nd in the world, lost in playoff for Bronze - came 4th.

Know a bit about the Hockey and while our Women have been patchy over the last 20 years or so its obvious our Men who were clearly No 1 for years in the Jamie Dwyer led team are now in a sort of rebuild .A few years ago it was Australia ,Netherlands and Germany then a big gap . We won a lot of World Cups and Champions trophy 's . The main survivors from that era Okenden and Govers are getting on in years and the new guys are just not quite at the same level .Maybe in a couple of years who knows . This era a few years ago we would thrash India 6-0 but now they beat us !

Well I know absolutely nothing about the game but watched Oz v India, and India v Britain and have to say I enjoyed it.
The India v Britain game was tremendous TV, exciting and tense, and made me a convert.

It's funny, the Olympics. Some sports you'd never take the time to watch but at this level, there's some great games to be had. I've even watched a bit of the basketball!
 
Boys brought the HEAT
Australia’s 4x100m men have shattered the national record of 38.17 seconds with a scorching run at the Stade de France, clocking the sixth fastest time across the two heats.
They missed the Olympic Final by just 0.05-seconds

That’s a real shame. They have such an intense rivalry, but there is no need to go to that level, especially after such a thrilling match.
