Parish firms for Wests Tigers coaching job

Hold the phone. Why would the boards favourite bare any influence on the coach selection? I was under the impression that Humpty was leading a sub committee in the selection of a new coach, which would be separate from the board would it not? Just typical telegraph spin, we may go for a rookie coach but it shouldn't be Parish.

Im hearing mixed reviews here, the paper, in particular the DT seem to be adamant that Parish is the man, everyone (including those on here) that I know have some contact to the club (in varying degrees) saying he is no chance.
People say the DT know nothing, but they are not always wrong, and in face are often proved correct.

Personally Ive been on the Potter for coach team for a while and hoping he comes up trumps, but the more I read these articles the more I think that there may be some truth to it all….

who knows tho I guess.

I know I shouldn't believe what I read on Twitter, but I do recall someone posting that Potter is being interviewed by the Tigers on Friday. If this is true, how could Parish already have the job or the board have an opinion?

I lost all respect for the DT when they said Sheens had quit, then the board had the press conference to say he hadn't, and then the DT printed we told you so…

The agenda behind the Herald and the DT is very different. However when there is a scoop the DT seems to get it first.

This report from the telegraph has to be utter crap!!…

Firstly the board's role in this is to review the recommendations for a new coach by the sub committee headed by the CEO. The board would've given the CEO the parameters with which they should operate within in selecting a new coach...(I.E. term, experience, $$$). It is then up this sub committee that will select the new coach from the interviews undertaken then present to the Board their decision...the board will simply ratify the decision or reject it with good reason if the recommendation was outside the guidelines set.. IMO the process is still ongoing...

Whatever decision is made we have to live with and it is about re-building a culture which does not accept failure so easily and readily make excuses as we have for the last few seasons.

It is a difficult job for whoever comes in so they need to be supported, not hacked away at before day one even starts or before they are even hired

Always refreshing to see some commonsense sprouted around here Smeg. The club needs to make a decision in its best interests moving forward, and whether we as fans like it or not, this is the way the world works.

Can I again put the lunatic ,madman comments to bed

From the Gladstone players who played under him at the Central Qld Comets that I have spoken to had nothing but praise for Parish

They were the bye of the Qld Cup until he took over and they made the semi's for the first time without any big name players and were unlucky not to make the GF

Again I think their are better options out their with the assistant coaches we are possibly interviewing but he won't be the worst option

with all due respect Happy, i would like to see a coach selected on merit/performance/results and not opinions.

So do I AHX , but I am just defending Parish

He has had some ridiculous comments about him , which with the opinions I have actually heard from players who HAVE played under him for 2 seasons in some cases are utterly false

And i still maintain that the best assistant coach for us to sign is Dymock

And again the best experienced coach is Folkes , he knows the problems first hand what was/is going on nd probably left for the same reasons

But if B&W says its going to be Potter , its going to be Potter .

Exactly …..the main selection criteria is how cheap will you work for ! Pay peanuts you get monkeys heard that one ....success needs to be from round 1 with the personal available shouldn't be a problem thats my criteria. No if's or but's the board has created this mess the board will be held responsible for another poor season...

Glad you both read my comment correctly

At no stage have i said to make him WT's coach

All I did was defend some of the comments floating around about him

Since day 1 I have said Folkes or Dymock depending on our financial decision

Does everyone understand that Farah ,Marshall,Lawrence ,Fulton and Keefy will have some say and a fair amount of pull over who we get ??

I am sure the senior players will have some say in who will be our coach next year, other wise it will end up a crap fight all of next year as well.

It has nothing to do with Balmain. We all know of the clubs financial woes, if Parish is elected it is merely for financial reasons. And those woes will continue to swell when we miss the 8 again. Parish would be a poor choice when you consider the Brown or Potter options

Dear tia4eva,

When you consider thaat Parish and Humphreys were team mates for Balmain reserves in 1986 you might have people doubting this.We have financial woes according to Parish's biggest supporter(Humphreys)despite selling most jerseys and large fan bases, sponsorships e.t.c you might have those who say that this whole debt is just a load of bollocks so he can use the financial debt to put in his former Balmain pal Parish.Im a former Balmain fan who just hopes that this joint Venture is running to its full potential and not "handicapped" by some peoples blind ignorance.

Well Farangalang if Humphrey's is stupid enough to be doing that he will be out on his sweet derriere before he can say Sheens

I love how OP was against the Parish decision and immediately made the issue a "Balmain has no respect for Wests" issue. Sure confused me.

It's the off season. Papers need to fill 6 pages of sports without any competition or results. I wouldn't be surprised if they contradict themselves in the next few weeks simply because it's another page filling story. Just remember how papers are run.

I hope this is just a DT beat up. I don't think I could handle another balmain reference to the JV.

I cant wait for the magpie moanfest. We listened to it about Sheens for years and its still goin.....

Fun times ahead. I expect to see many posts regarding jersey colours from a different perspective.

Parish is the last person we should have coaching us. A year wasted is a long time, let alone if he get a 2/3 year deal, you've got to be joking. We have to get this decision right and there are plenty of candidates out there that us supporters see as the man for the job, sign Parish and you're asking for failure. On the money issue, what a load of rubbish. I'm sure if they proposed the idea to a third party sponsor of how important it was to get a suitable coach with a glowing record, they will not have any problems securing someone. For christs sake, do what I'd do, take out a loan if you have to. I can honestly see a lot of death riding Parish if he was to join us, and that will be his downfall sooner rather than later. And another thing, you can forget any quality signings if you don't sign a quality/popular coach.

I don't think they were ever team mates. I'm sure Parish was purchased from Eastwood RU.
