Pat Richard Returns

I just watched "that try" on you tube in the 2005 grand final. Benji fielded the ball from a Thurston kick back on the left wing. Can anybody tell me; in those days of Benji's turn style defence, did he defend on the wing with Pat defending at left centre?? Why did Benji drop back? I take it he was never fielding bombs in that winger position. I also think (if that was the case) centre is a slightly harder defensive position than wing so it would fix that left hand defence up if he were to play on that left wing again.

Now to throw around my a opinion! - I think Koro should go right wing for two reasons.

a) Ayshford is a much better defender than Lawrance and will talk to Koro to get him into position until he gets enough first grade experience as he is still very raw. Ayshford never really trusted Utai outside him and has became much better in attack now that Reddy is there. (For the record I think Lawrance is a better attacking centre than Ayshford and should still be holding his spot.

b) If you swapped Pat to the other side you would get rid of his monster fend.

The only downside to all of this is Reddy. I think he is to good to be in NSW cup and he will move on if not in the side full time. I have no idea where to put him and he should be a centre. For me Utai is passed his best and I am sorry to say but I cant see Lote getting over his injury - Would love to see him have a farewell game if we were to miss the 8 though.

Awesome so when do we sign hodgo back

Not sure there's even any logic in that. Hodgo would be older than Pat and looking at the back door soon, besies that have we not just had this massive debate over Tedesco and Moltzen? Is two FB's not enough?

Off field no doubt YES On field I dunno

Not a criticism milky but why would you turn a 32 year ol who has never been a centre and always been a winger or a little while at fullback into a centre ?

Richards has actually played quite a bit of centre. He even played centre for us on 05 in the odd match.

Since he left us he has played ten games at centre the last of which was in 2006 and the team lost 8 of them so that's not really quite a bit of centre given it will be 8 years since he played a game in that position by the time he returns

I just don't think either of them have been overtly bad tbh. Lawrence has still been passable and I don't see any of our juniors doing a better job. BMM has been more effective this year than ever. He is on the improve. I reckon Lawrence is going to have a blinder tonight.

Eh it's not for me or you to say I guess. I just try to be positive.

I agree with everything you have said in this thread Maca!!

Peeps are going off about Lawrence way too early,he hasnt been that bad and isnt far off top form.NOne of the youngsters are as good,Ive been watching them closely.

Our pack is starting to come good, and BMM is at the top of the list….a little patience and we will be there, put Sauce back in and we have a formidable group.

And back on topic......surely a back three of Koro,Pattycake and Teddy is just about as good as it gets.......very exciting times looming IMO.

x3.

I'm not sold that all our players will get to the level they need too but I think we have the makings of a top quality team.

Lawrence hasn't even been that bad. A couple of misses defensively have been poor and he hasn't made a big bust but he could get back to top form and I'm not writing him off yet.

To be honest Happy, probably not. Thats why I stipulated if we missed the 8\. I do think if we had missed the 8 and were playing for pride then yes. He has not only been a great ambassador for our club, he has also promoted Rugby league and union very well and has had a fantastic career. I would love to celebrate it and don't think he should just flow into obscurity.

Lets be honest as well, If we were out of contention a farewell match for Lote would get some bums on seats for the final home game.

Its not that he is missing tackles, and I don't even think his hip is giving him as much grief as we think it is. He isn't lame in his legs, he cannot read the game. As the defence slides, he is either pushing "up and in" to create overlaps for the opposition, turns up late or ineffective second man in tackles so he has also left a gap and allowed the offload for an overlap, or totally flat footed and planted as running ball comes towards him a pass goes outside him and again our winger is 2 on 1\. He has done it all season, cost us points and games in a consistant manner.

If he gets his hands on the man he chooses, he is solid. His choices are poor. I probably sound like the worst of the "death riders" to quote someone else, but he is physically ok to me, its his reads that suck, and by now he should be aware from the tape and still hasn't adjusted his game.

Rather than reply, I am not arguing with you, but please watch his positional play and diving out of the line instead of contact. He is giving 100%, its just in the wrong places.

More than anyone, I pray he makes me look like an ass, because the Bronco's arent travelling well, and a soft try or 2 down his side could cost us the game.

Lawrence needs a wake up call…..
He is way too good for NSW Cup but F.ck me... You cant defend like that and expect to play 1st grade.

stevetiger, 15 mins in and Lawrence found out twice…

Mate if your referring to the two tries scored early it was actually Moltzens man both times and he didn't get them. Chris had to come in twice coz Moltz didnt stick with his man and Chris tried to cover.

Watched the game twice and Lawrence brought the ball back bloody hard until he did his hammy. He's actually been playing with a dud leg/hammy for a while now (not his hip) but it looks like it's finally given up on him.
