Pat Richard Returns

32 years old. Dreadful. Leaves me questioning my continued support for this club. First time I have ever felt this way in 28 years.

How can you question your support for the club? We just brought back a much loved ex-player! There's so much sentiment in the signing, it just makes me so happy. Despite his age, I am still looking forward to seeing him play. Two year will probably means he retires here. Many fans will be happy about this.

How can you question this signing? He is the same age as Jamie Lyon. 31 is not that old and he is in career best form indicating that age is not bothering him in the slightest. He is at his peak right now and plays a position we are short on.

How can you not question it?

You're mad. The guy is in career best form and was in Australia last week at his brothers wedding. He probably made a decision to move home and came to us first. Would you have said no thanks to a guy currently leading the pointscoring in the ESL with 9 tries in 10 games and 3rd highest pointscorer in Wigan history, former Man of Steel, three times leading pointscorer, scorer of the greatest try in WT history, same age as the two best centres in the NRL Jamie Lyon and Justin Hodges?

So quick to be negative.

I loved Wayne Pearce too but don't want him back.

It's a backward move that signals this clubs complete lack if ambition.

Read my last post.

Would you be upset if we signed Jamie Lyon or Justin Hodges to a two year deal? This guy is currently in career best form and has over the past 7 years been at the top of the ESL almost the whole time. Negative all day round here.

If this means we can shed Utai, Lawrence, Lote & Moltzen I am all for it. He is an upgrade on any of those and punting the other two creates space to keep youth in the side

I love him but another back ???

We need forwards ….. He won't be doing much if we don't have forwards .

Lyon yes, Hodges no. But Richards has never been in their class.

I dont care how old a player is, if they are good enough age doesnt matter. Koro is only signed till the end of this year.

But it won't.

Nice to see him back. Would have been nicer 5 years ago.

He might still be good and handy for a year or two. A lot of our outside backs are terrible so it might add some class. However after 9 seasons away I honestly don't know what to expect.

Bottom line we we still need to get stability in the halves and power up front before we can become even close to a top side again.

We have heaps of forwards. We'd have one of the best packs in the NRL if not for an amazing amount of injuries. We need attacking impetus more than forwards. The need for forwards has just become a catch cry to us. We have a very good forward pack when injury free and our depth is stellar as shown by the fact that despite an amazinga mount of injury we have still been competitive in all our matches bar the first when injuries weren't really even a factor yet.

What a crock. You know he had only played 70 first grade games when he left us right? If he stayed here he would have played for NSW and Australia.

I was a massive Pat Richards Fan and will always remember his role in our premiership year. there is alot of nostalgia in his signing and its great that he is apart of the club again. But as a fan and a member i am sick and tired of this clubs "novelty" signings. he may be in great form but he will be 32 next year how are we "building" when we sign players in this age bracket AGAIN. i thought we had seen the end of this with the end of sheens. next year we will have the youngest/inexperienced forwards and the oldest/slowest backs.

Don't share your assessment Mac.

Unless we are paying him peanuts, I have to rate this as one of the worst decisions he club has made. If we weren't meant to be in a rebuilding phase, I could live with it.

If we were signing him for the remainder of this year I could understand it.

But this decisions suggests we have no faith in our young flankers. If I was Nofo I would be looking for another club.

Disgraceful decision and leaves me strongly questioning Potter's judgment.

A great signing as many said Jamie Lyon is a month older and hodges a couple of months younger. He hasn't been in the nrl and plays on the wing so should still be physically fine. He has been one of the best players in super league since he left including the best player in 2010 and has also been scoring a try a game and kicking a heap of goals.

Some people on here we sign a bloke who is possibly the worlds best winger and all you can do is winge. If nofoaluma is better he will make play -I would think centre is his best spot anyway and he is still under 20 s so will probably be a couple of years at his size before he makes it

Part of me feels 8 years in ESL may have sioftyened him a bit….tehy do say you get very easy oppositions a lot of the time.
He'll be up against blokes like Fonua, Toupo, Morris, RTS

Hope he goes OK

Boonboon,

We will wait and see who is right. My reaction may have been a reflection of how the club promoted this. I was expecting a lot and instead I get an over the hill winger who has been playing the equivalent of State Cup for the past 8 years.
