It’s far from a wasted season if we use it to cut or get rid of the players who have let us down and recruit to improve on the areas and positions that desperately need strengthening.
Bula is a great find.
Both To’a and Tupou have proven they are capable of a stand out game occasionally. They are players we need to persist with, but needing good depth in their positions to make them realise they will be playing NSW Cup if they do not consistently play at the required NRL standard.
Da Silva given a taste of NRL he should only continue to improve.
Staines showing his ability and toughness before injury stalled his season.
Pole showing he is a good young forward who will also keep improving.
Blore and Seyfarth showing they have made the necessary improvements to be genuine NRL standard players.
Asitasi showing signs he is well up to NRL level when given a chance.
Twal consistently strong and reliable off the bench.
Klemmer, Utoikamanu and Papali’i all showing strong form and good impact more often than not.
Tumeth given a taste of NRL and now leading a late season charge for our Jersey Flegg side, he’s another that will continue to improve.
Likewise Matamua is getting more experienced and will hopefully be a much better version of himself in 2024.
Mansfield and Reilly two standout performers in a struggling NSW Cup, both on the cusp of making slight improvements to become genuine NRL contenders.
The emergence of some of our best young talents starting to filter into our Jersey Flegg side and making representative teams along the way.
All this along with the hole we can be shrewd in our recruitment/retention and if done sensibly we are very close to seeing our NRL team making a rapid improvement.
Well summarised @Vicious 👍

Great post. There is actually plenty to like but we are still the worst team in the comp. Get some quality halves and some quick outside backs and things will turn.

The problem is those issues have been massive issues for years on end.

I agree with all you have said, however, once again we are no where near the finals and on our way to the second wooden spoon engineered by the club in successive seasons.
What gives you confidence they can be shrewd in recruitment/retention?
The club has demonstrated that no one is on the same page and our track record is awful in building a competitive roster with depth.

It’s hard to be overly confident we can be shrewd on our recruitment and retention, however I believe IF Benji and Farah are given the final say in this and the others including Scott Fulton are just used to give his recommendations and try and close deals, I would be confident that Benji and Farah are smart enough to get us back on track sooner than we think.

It would be great for that to be the case.
The fanbase deserve for the club to get its act together on field.
I don’t believe it is possible though while the current board, CEO and head coach continue at the club.

It is a wasted season. 90% of the players used in Cup will never play first grade. Same goes for the majority of Flegg. For a club that cannot recruit externally having so many losers in our lower grades is unacceptable

That is fairly accurate, but my post stated the positives.
It is no point dwelling on the negatives.

The way Flegg and NSW Cup has been managed it looks like for whatever reason the NSW Cup team is not where we’re putting our best players who aren’t playing NRL.

Anyone who is Flegg eligible seems to be playing Flegg. I don’t know if this is a conscious decision to keep the kids together, but that’s what it looks like.

Tommy Talau gets an intercept with no one in front of him and gets chased down lol, looked that slow.

Reilly scores through a grubber kick
