Kit Laulilii was our best by a mile today. Ran like a train and scored a barnstorming try.

Mason threatened plenty. Wasn't his fault we got pumped.

Tuitupou got knocked out super early by a Xyon Ma'u high shot and despite getting put on report Ma'u got to stay on the field. It was a grade 1 so we activated 18th man Josese Lanyon, Lobb went to right wing outside Mapapalangi and Luke Laulilii switched from the right wing to the left wing outside Masi. Lanyon got a fairly large amount of game time but didn't get many opportunities to impress.

Masi scored a great try and made some solid hits but their edge was attacked to good effect quite a lot. Dogs had some serious strike in their outside backs in Blake Wilson, Jethro Rinakama, Jonathan Su'a and Cassius Taia and all four carved us up.

Hutchison's combo with Logan Spinks the left edge backrower also gave Kurt Falls fits who was left posted solo multiple times and got trampled.

Ultimately the Dogs had the edge over us in class and despite early signs of promise the guys fell apart when they went behind pushing very silly passes and playing selfishly. Particularly disappointing performances today from Staines, Falls and Mapalalangi.

Phoenix Godinet was called up for debut today and went okay. He made a couple of solid carries. Hope toiled as did Rahme. Taateo and Laulilii were a huge difference. When on the field we did well and when they weren't we got pasted.

Christian Taupau-Moors has a bit of dog in him which is good. He handled himself well in his 2nd game of NSW cup I think.

We could see Max Taotua come in if Makasini makes his NRL debut the day before. Hope Luke Laulilii has a stormer in his best position of fullback too.

I wonder if the naming of Iverson Matai on the bench is a sign that he is staying with the club next season (as he will be ineligible for Jersey Flegg) so possible Magpies Cup contract. Same with Elijah Mataale.

Is that his first start at fullback this year?

I think Benji looks through rose coloured glasses Mason can't catch a kick should be in the halves.
I must admit Mason has been very good in attack & defence at fullback his past 2 starts. Though defending the high ball is still his weakness.

Maybe this pre-season will see some change where plays are repped i.e. Mason being developed as dummyhalf/halves/fullback utility & Luke L back to fullback where his game excels.

Mason would make a great utility player but is not a fullback.

Let's hope in the pre-season Mason is given plenty of tutelage in dummy half play, works on his passing both sides & partners with Royce Hunt on the wrestling mat.
That might be worse bullying than that bulldog's player having to wrestle the whole team.
The horror of having to wrestle big Roycey, man that's enough to frighten you off turning up to training.

No he had a couple of games mid-season which he absolutely blitzed in NSW Cup.

It just seems Benji sees him more as a strong carrying winger & finisher like Tito Turuva and sees Mason as a more rounded fullback at this stage.
@boonboon
I hope he gets a fair go at fullback I know a few of you have said it’s his best position, I take it he’s a bit safer than Mason under the ball then?

Sunday's final round NSW Cup team may give us an insight into who is in calculations for a NSW Cup or better (NRL T&T) contract for next season.

Just for a bit of fun & comment, here are my list of priorities to retain on NSW Cup contracts ...

1 Tino Tavana (tick)
2 Josese Lanyon - I understand is contracted for next year, not eligible for JF so must be Cup or T&T.
3 Max Taotua - will still be eligible for JF but ready to take the next step.
4 Peter Taateo - props are slow developing & a full pre-season in our system could see him push for NRL.
5 Krystian Mapapalangi - very good season in Cup, great backline utility value, an injury-free pre-season will benefit him.
6 Jaxson Rahme - has been so consistent in NSW Cup this year, probably B&F, still young & worth another season to keep developing.
7 Elijah Mataale - transformed our JF middles when recruited back mid this season, brings aggression & strong in contact both sides of the ball, not eligible for JF next year.
8 One of Iverson Matai or Max Liles (both not eligible for JF) to add depth to our NSW Cup halves.

Anyone else I'm either not fussed if we let go or are still eligible for Jersey Flegg or on a Development contract.
