I don’t know for sure, but I’m fairly certain I heard Mav Geyer has a minor injury and I’m near certain Bunty had a minor niggling injury as well.
Yeah I remember seeing someone say Mav was on light duties at the open training session. Hopefully right to get some reps next week.

Looks like we mistook Bunty in last week’s Cup trial for new Magpies signing Ieti Samuelu. Similar afro hair & body shape albeit a bit smaller.

Was impressed with his performance last week & in yesterday’s Cup/Flegg hitout. High workrate, commands the ball, strong ball runner, plays both lock & backrow. Ex Eels Flegg in ‘25 & Warriors in ‘24 so must be turning 22 this year.

Anticipating our NSW Cup trial team will line up something like this on Saturday based off who is not playing in the NRL trial & who has played in the Cup trials thus far.

Brookes
Craig
Max Taotua
Saukuru
A highly regarded Flegg propsect (Oitmann or Nicholas)
Matai
Liles
Jack
Ethan Roberts (hopefully, if not Ieti Samuelu)
Mitch Taotua
Broederlow
Lanyon
Aho
---
Duncombe, Samuelu, Leatigaga, Pritchard, Hodges, Laupepa, Xavier Tauiafaiga on bench.

Maybe the players who play around 15-20mins or less on Friday night will also play in this trial ?

The NSW Cup team lined up something like this against Ryde Eastwood.

Brookes
Craig
Saukuru
Max Taotua
???
Pritchard
Liles
Bailey Hodges
Laupepa
Mitch Taotua
Broederlow (1st half only)
Haywood (1st half only)
Duncombe
---
Josese Lanyon (lock for about 20 mins, dummy half for about 30 mins)
Leatigaga
A couple of other middles (maybe Flegg)
Another Hooker (maybe Flegg)

A few missing who I thought might get a game were Iverson Matai, Luke Jack, Vaka Aho, Ieti Samuelu (the Bunty clone) & Elijah Mataale. Actually haven't spotted Mataale in the trials at all.

It was a fairly underwhelming match as most of these scratch matches are. Most players had an error or two in them, it looked like they were all going at 90% only.

Haywood & Broederlow did look quality in the 1st half without being outstanding.

Max & Mitch Taotua and Josese Lanyon caught the eye many times both in attack & defence. Lanyon's ball playing is very good. Max just looks an athlete.

Saukuru was solid without breaking the game open. Brookes & Craig also were decent.

Liles was the game manager and is depth NSW Cup at best at the moment. Laupepa has been solid in all his trials. Duncombe was strong in D and plenty of post contact metres. Hodges was ok and seems to be playing more as a smaller hard running middle these days.

If Benji was watching, I reckon he'd be happy most with Haywood, Broederlow, the Taotua twins & Lanyon.

Benji was playing some weird hybrid sport today with half our coaching staff so chances are nobody was watching any of the clubs matches today.

Appalling from the club and HBG for organising this Mickey mouse charity fundraiser on a day when we've got matches on

Game was televised on Bar TV so they can watch the tape if they choose tomorrow.

That's not the point. We want the players to feel valued, respected. Having Benji, Hodgo and Gallant ignoring our youngsters at both Leichhardt oval and for this match is unacceptable.
