latu always gets the tackle wrong. When will someone coach him how to tackle? Surely, they can see he has no idea.

I have no doubt Thompson led with his knee and forearm to hurt Latu while he was making the effort to tackle however according to the current rules Latu put him in a dangerous position. I don't necessarily agree with those rules, but nobody cares about that. They are the rules. I very rarely agree with Joey, however i agree here...Latu did have his arms out ready to wrap however Leo raised his knee and that hit his shoulder first and he basically ended up flipping over Latu. In my opinion maybe you give it a penalty, however no way its a sin bin and a two week suspension. Joey is a similar body shape to Latu so I'm sure he relates to it more than Fittler and I will not comment on Slater as he has had his fair share of questionable tackles that were let go.

While any win over the Dogs is sweet, the margin of victory should have been much bigger. We were leading 32-12 after 48 minutes and could easily have had 2-3 more. It was even more disappointing to concede 3 quick tries to a Dogs team who had lost Conti to HIA.
That aside, the first half was brilliant. Andrews was sublime with 4 try assists. Already, he has a better passing game than Luai and Doueihi. His kicking is pretty good, though he does tend to defer to his more senior halves partner, be that Madden or Latu. Running is the one undeveloped aspect of his attack, but with his big physique and pace, it will come along. I was all for keeping him in KOE for most of next season but now I wonder what benefit it would serve. To repeat the old rugby league cliche, if he's good enough, he's old enough. Marshall (or hopefully a new coach) should give him the opportunity to fight for a starting spot next season.

At this stage, the only plausible explanation for overlooking Saukuru is that he's not in our future plans because he's signed elsewhere or the club doesn't rate him. Otherwise, we're playing a busted To'a who's leaving for Manly and a busted Makasini who badly needs a rest.

Have a career like lamb but he looks similar , has a similar build, similar skills and could easily develop into a similar type of player .. he really should be developed as a 7 .. just keep playing him there until he gets it as he is tough , has pace , all the skills and whatnot .. just his step is a bit too early and predictable off the right leg infield every time … lot to like if someone like Cronk or Joey could spend some time with him I really feel we could have a teriffic 7/14 in the Connor Watson mould

It’s ridiculous really .. he could miss 5 tackles a game and not stand out worse than toa or Skelton, plus he can play back row , can beat a man , step and also set up his support players .. is like some sort of clarification from someone as to why he is not even getting a look in
His defence is not good . You can say things like “they’re not good anyway he’s not gonna play any worse than the existing guys” , but that’s no true at all.
For me I’d blood him this week , with Javon off the bench .
I’d have Masi Turuva , Tupou, Saukuru. Potentially Tavana instead of Masi.
Toa can go on an early holiday , And clean his locker out , same with Skelton . That call to Bula that it was out for the 40/20 was boneheaded to the max . (Sorry Bula haters it wasn’t him , I called it as soon as it happened ).
I’d look at starting Pole and May and bringing Taateo off the bench with Sione . Give Roberts the right edge for the rest of year and hopefully get him to 10ish games as a genuine edge backup option. Have a look at Taateo , see what he’s got .
I’d be playing madden and luai for this week with madden dropping out next week for Latu . But this week madden swaps time with Javon .
After next week I’d be going luai to start games with Latu and luai and Javon swap minutes . AD needs to make the transition to either lock or centre or seriously even right edge backrow .
His ball running is dynamic , but if teams are handling his ball running , which they are at the moment becauae he’s nursing his shoulder , then he’s effectively useless for running shape .
If you play him at right edge he can interchange with Javon and use Javon as a hole runner at times even have Bula hit that lead line .
If everyone buys in there’s enough danger there for each of those 3 to have defensive gravity attached to them .
I don’t know what AD is . He has to be in the team , but he can’t create . And teams are sliding off him .
Have him bulk up over the offseason , and he’s the perfect 14. Play middles , centre , edge forward , 6, , and just bring him on and say run at whoever you want and cause havoc .
Latu and his ability to slow the game down , creates infinite space on the edges , but I genuinely feel Javon and his deception around his passing game , will create space .
The future is Javon and Latu . Tel them that , and transition as such . Tell luai that’s the plan , and I’m almost certain that’s 2-3 more wins this year .

Agree with all this after watching another sublime display from Javon in Cup yesterday.
Other speculators have said Javon could be our long-term halfback. No way, he is an out-and-out 5/8 with Latu our best prospect coming through at 7.
Javon is more comfortable on the left and has played 95% of game time this season on the left. I've seen him swing to the right a few times and he's done this well including yesterday when he threw a beautiful cut-out in his non-preferred direction to Tino Tavana to score.
I agree taking the line on is an area of improvement but he'll get there. Importantly, his defensive reads & contact have improved out of the sight this season. In a few years, he has the potential to be one of the better defensive halves in the comp with his size & ability to be physical.

Andrews was our best again yesterday but Sukkar, Saukuru and Tupou were excellent on the left edge & Mason was very good in attack despite a few errors & clean flatfooted last line miss on Xerri.
