This morning taking the kids to School , a young girl (maybe 10 year old) holding her Brother's hand (maybe 5 year old) were Crossing a Pedestrian Crossing getting to School , they got 1/3rd of the way Crossing , when i noticed the Car on the other side wasn't stopping on the Crossing , I screamed out to the Kid's STOP!!!!!!! i screamed that loud they Froze , the Lady sure enough drives over the Crossing one hand on the wheel and the other hand with a Mobile Phone (Texting whatever she was doing ) .
I crossed the Road and caught up with the kids and explained to them just cause it's a Crossing don't presume everyone is going to Stop, Wait till both sides have Completely Stopped , Poor kids they looked they were a bit Scared in the Manner i screamed but hey if it saved them from Serious harm , i will Scream again .
Can people give the Phone up when there Driving it's like Driving Drunk when trying to do both.

Hope you got the lady's licence plate number.

No i wasn't quick enough , i was to focused on those kids . It's unbelievable i could see it , i was thinking that car isn't slowing down and kids have not always got there minds on the present moment and lack the awareness that Adults do .
People are so obsessed with phones and Tablets , you go and eat out somewhere and all you see people with there phones while dining out . Very Sad .

Cheers Sabre , I'm sure everyone else would of done the same thing no doubt .

I ride a motorbike and have 2 young kids just starting to learn rd crossing safety and I see these f-wits on their phones every day. As a parent, rider and driver it scares the be-Jesus out of me more than a lot of other things in the rd.

This is one area we should be able to dob in a driver. In the meantime I'll continue to beep my horn and signal them to get off their phones with my naughty boy finger wave.

I also don't get the whole hold the phone away from your ear on speakerphone while driving that they all do. And I agree the fines are not nearly high enough. Hit people in the pocket and they'll soon learn the lesson.

Someone smart enough has just got to come up with an invention that Cars can not be operated while a mobile phone device is on in the Car, and also while driving phones can't be switched ON while a car motor is running .
Easy in Theory i know :unamused:

My car has blue tooth and I chat on the phone all the time hands free…

No chance I'd text, check emails, etc.
Death wish.

people use their phones to run music and GPS in their cars. im sure they'd be stoked.

also, im not against quickly replying to a text at a stop light. as long as you dont forget about the light haha

Well done FT your are a caring person…..
Sadly it will take someone being killed until they make the punishment harsher in my opinion...

Also I would like to say,my 13yr old boy can't even go to the loo or feed the dogs without his phone in his hand, what a sad situation that they have no interest in other things other than Electronic Devices....

Good man FT. You probably saved those young kids from severe injury or possible death. I have nursed many patients that have been injured in road accidents that were caused by one of the drivers using their phone, while driving. And they were the lucky ones because they survived. More needs to be done to get the message across that texting or holding your phone while driving at any speed can be deadly.

I'm sure you have seen horrific things as well Tigermama , there is 1 tragic accident that i will never forget , happened 6 years ago on the Tweed area (it was on the News)
A Child Care Centre had a Day out for the kids at a Park next to Tweed River and a Boy in the Group wandered of , when the Teacher's started looking for him they found him upside down in the water , Ambulance brought him in to Hospital with the Paramedic doing Resus while wheeling the Boy to our Resus room , then we took over and continued for ages , we couldn't save him , the thing that hit home for me was that Boy was the same age as my Daughter (2 month's apart) , we all hugged each other Doctor's , Nurse's ,CNC,Wardies . Later on when the Mum arrived to the Hospital and was informed of her son's passing, the scream that came out of that room was unbelievable .
I think that is where i get my instinct in looking out for any dangers that can occur to kids.
Those kid's were very lucky this morning , i have no doubt they would of been hit.

Ink your sign should be compulsory at every RTA in Australia, just to get the message across, wether you are young or old….

gotta admit i did the same… i keep my phone in my pocket so i dont reach for it at lights.

i've stopped it now though.. used to drive a lot a few months ago from one part of the sydney to the other (almost 5 hours a day without a clue about where the place is) and had one hand on the phone with gps running all the time. was a very very bad practice.

these days, if i have to check the gps, i keep it running on my lap or something and check it at the lights... again, not a good practice- not sure what the alternative is either though? should probably buy one of those car phone holder things
