I'm intrigued by his wish for a 2nd Brisbane team. Has he given any indication of whether this team will be an addition or at the expense of an existing Sydney team? I hope it is not at the expense of the Titans.

It is in addition

Why not though? Titans offer zero to the comp.

The Brisbane market could accommodate at least two teams playing in Brisbane per weekend (I include the GC).

There is an enormous talent pool on the Northern NSW coast. We need to offer an opportunity for these players to play NRL with a local team. Having three teams around the Brisbane - GC further dilutes the Bronco talent pool and we can move into the schoolboy rugger ranks which are strong in these areas.

Nearly every single person who loves the game has been overflowing in their praise for the game, the refs, the players, the sunshine, the flowers..... I’ve never seen such harmony in rugby league. Why is this so? Because for the first time in 10-20 years we have the game we all bloody love. Fast, tough but with fatigue so ALL types of players can have influence. A game devoid of that disgusting wrestle that has been sucking the life out of the game. And how did this happen? A leader came along and made tough, gutsy, correct decisions. Landmark weekend without doubt. V’landys has done wonders.

Yeah, definitely deserves praise for this, though jury still out on other areas.

I agree he got the rules right so far, but I am concerned he may have sold us short in the TV deal

Can't see a mistake yet. Always been a fan of 1 referee but the six again rule is brilliant, and I think really enhances games. I'm interested in how it will be abused by teams (extra holding down on tackle 1- because it doesn't impact too much etc), but it has made players self-regulate a lot more and the games have been a lot more influenced by players like Tedesco, Benji, Nikorima and Turbo, which is really positive. I also think that the simple fact that the Telegraph has stopped trashing the game and complaining about anything has influenced the commentators and fans and just allowed the actual games to be the story. I see this as a honeymoon period and the usual whining journalism of telegraph and Ray Hadley 2GB crew will be back to continue to ruin the game going on endlessly about referees and personal drama because they're too stupid to discuss tactics and style of play.

If you watched the Melbourne game, I noticed they were lifting a lot in the tackle and then placing the player on the ground. I think that's how they'll try to rort the rule, with unnecessary lifting in the tackle to try and slow the play the ball down.

Didn't do the Storm much good though they got pumped thankfully. The refs just need to stay one step ahead of coaches trying to bend the rules.

Don't believe in the current climate it's been sold short...how much should V'Landy's have got....To secure 1b dollars with FTA rights still to be bid post 2022 as well as the GF and Origin is better than I thought possible..

You could argue increased ratings should have got more from the revised deal but it was still enough to keep the salary cap and Club grants in tact for the remainder of the deal which at one point was looking unlikely...plus there is bugger all to watch ATM so naturally it's higher and will flatten out...The NRL also retained it's digital rights and overseas markets have increased..

The best part though of V'Landy's leadership is that the NRL has become Pro-active in it's decision making..ref's, rules Game direction in the future etc ..people may not agree with all the decisions but it is a far cry from the reactive approach the NRL has endured for decades...

It is a breath of fresh air so for me it's well done V'Landy's..Long live Rugbeh League..

The broadcasters essentially got this season for free in relation to the current deal. If the AFL deal ends up being something similar than I can live with it. Time will tell.

Apparently there is a push to have Shane Flanagans penalty cut short in order for him to take up a head coaching role at either Saints or Canterbury when they pull the trigger on their current coaches. Could be all just Daily Telecrap talk. However if its true i would hope PVL has the gonads to stop it in its tracks. There is no way Flanagan should get a reprieve. If PVL allowed this to go through i think he would lose a lot of the goodwill he has built up with the average fan of the game.

I personally don't care what other codes or sports get from any media deals they choose to accept
All I care about is NRL and based on what's happened this year, we're lucky to be in such a sound financial position going forward.

They were pushing for it on NRL 360 last night

By all appearances, he's been the person coaching at the Dragons already since last year. Mary has just been the figurehead. I think that has already been disgusting, the way they've been allowed to get away with that.

No way should it made any easier for Flanagan, the guy is scum. Gets caught cheating, gets suspended, cheats again whilst suspended. Should have had his suspension doubled.

If he is the one doing the coaching then he is doing a pretty ordinary job. You wouldn't want him as your head coach if true.

At the moment you would have to rate the dragons a decent chance at the spoon.Flano should not have been allowed back in the NRL in any capacity.

As long as he hasn't let go of the digital arm I can cop the deal, the digital arm is important in my opinion.

So far he's making/made the right noises. In the one round the game has been back with the pace has been up from previous rounds, and looks less like a penalty-a-thon since the six again call has been implemented.

Had to take a bath on the rights and the like, but at the same time managed to secure a decent deal going forward. Hopefully the FTA deal provides a good cash injection as well. In a manner of speaking it could work out beneficial if the FTA deal hasn't been agreed upon yet and the rule changes continue to make the game look like a much more attractive product than previous years, it could improve the value they secure on the deal.

As others have said, I would hope he stands firm against Flanno returning to the game as a head coach. He oversaw a concerted and lengthy effort to cheat the game and deserves no reprieve. IMO he should have been banned for life.
