<big>**Petero leads charge for Four Nations pay as blame game erupts over liability**</big>

BRISBANE and Kangaroos veteran Petero Civoniceva has called on authorities to pay Australia's stars $500,000 in prizemoney immediately as a blame game breaks out over the Four Nations payments fiasco.
Rugby League Players' Association boss David Garnsey will today launch an investigation into why Australia's victorious squad has not been paid $25,000 each three months after beating England 30-8 in the Four Nations final.
The Australian Rugby League and the Rugby League International Federation insisted last night they were not to blame for the saga, pointing the finger at England's Rugby Football League.
The ARL is required to distribute tour payments to Australia's elite but says it cannot do so until the RFL, which hosted the Four Nations, completes a tournament audit.
Civoniceva, as the RLPA general president, yesterday went public with his grievances.
"These are things holding us back as a game," said the Test enforcer, who was a late withdrawal from the tour with a pectoral injury.
"We're the national team going to represent our country and the players should be getting paid for their services.
"Obviously playing for Australia is a huge honour but there is prizemoney at stake and it should be sorted out.
"We're playing on a professional level and there's a way that business should be conducted and being paid on time shouldn't be a problem.
"It was an issue for the guys on tour. Hopefully we can streamline these processes and it won't be a problem from here on in."
Under the Four Nations participation agreement, Australian players are to receive $15,000 apiece for winning the tournament. A further $10,000 is paid into each individual's superannuation fund.
Garnsey wants answers urgently from the relevant authorities.
"It's disappointing that it takes this long to pay players for a tour that ended some months ago, but maybe there are valid reasons I'm not aware of," he said.
ARL chief executive Geoff Carr said last night: "It's not our fault, we've tried to fix it. We have to keep pushing the RFL to send their accounts."
