Phil Gould Article on Tigers

I think Gus summed up JT and our situation really well.

"Great players can make the most basic of attacking structures look great. Hell, great players can make coaches look great"

Couldnt agree more …. Moses, Tedesco and Brooks have the ability to make our Jason Taylor look like a Jack Gibson.

I read his article as basically a thumbs up for giving the younger players more responsibility, and a subtle show of support for the coach last weekend

Gus would know all about that

He bails from teams when they are about to go belly up

Whats the bet Gus agrees to take over NSW once Smith ,Cronk ,Inglis ,Slater etc are gone

It was never a permanent style.

As painful as it was to watch, I haven't seen many soft tries against us…usually now it's overlap stuff.

I think "Taylorball" gave us an underbelly when the times are tough

Our scramble is exceptional.

I think Taylorball was terrible. I think our scramble is good though. It's very 05 like. Our team is actually 05 like. We can play some great attacking footy. We have a young team.

2005 was the worst thing that could of ever happened to the WT's

The worst day of my life was tigers vs raiders 1989\. Best day of my life was grand final win 2005 (yes even better than getting married, having kids..etc. lol. If it wasnt for 2005 id be crying after every game. It still feels like yesterday. I dont know how we won it, but someone was looking over us that year. How good would it be too be succesfull again, i reckon playing just one game of semis would feel like playing a grand final.

Thats is an insane comment happy.

I know what your saying but its still insane.

Mate we still have people raving about it and how we should emulate it

Lose a tight one v the Dragons in 2005 and the players would of got hungry and Sheens wouldn't have got a hundred years deal

The club got rewarded for mediocrity and bleed it dry for all it was worth

I know it's not popular , but I've said it on here a few times now

Be interesting to see how the WT's in a parallel universe that lost that semi are going

I think that shows exactly where you are coming from. Winning doesn't matter. Good footy doesn't matter.

2005 was a great time for Tigers fans.

Happy, I've followed the Magpies/WT since 1959, and in all that time my team has won the grand total of 1 premiership - 2005\. And now your saying that it was the worst thing that could have happened to the club. I understand where your coming from, but you'll understand if I respectfully disagree. For me it was the happiest moment in my football-following life.

2006 onward was the worst thing to happen to WT.

The old saying a coach is only as good as the cattle he has at his disposal. In saying that I think Taylor is a way better coach than 90% of this forum think. Forget the Farah thing, thats being going on for nearly five years and is finally going to be resolved one way or another. I just think we are doing things now that this team was not mentally capable of a few years ago

While there may not be a lot of difference ladder wise, I see an improvement in maturity and attitude compared to last year.. The young blokes are growing up, it's becoming their team and this is evident in Woodsy scaling things back a little to when he first hit the scene…. He's pacing himself well as well... We are less reliant on him than we were and the team ethos seems positive

I agree Ink. There is no guarantee anyway that another coach would do better. Im happy knowing things seem to be going in a positive direction. Even the coach haters would surely concede that.

Be interesting to see if we can attract quality players under the current arrangement. Holding them may also be a challenge.

And I totally understand where you and many other supporters come from

And I felt the same way , but how we haven't turned that success into anything is disgraceful

Same goes for 2010-2011 , yes because of the salary cap most clubs have limited windows

We should of built on that , but we fell flat on our face

If we become a success again , we need to build on it , become a consistent Top 6 side

I reckon the club may have folded if not for 05\. We'd blown the 10mil the NRL gave us, had drug scandals, bottom poking issues and no identity. We were a joke of a club, fans were losing faith that the merger would work.
I reckon it saved us.
