I don't know why Gould cops so much stick.

He was 100% spot on. We were gone, completely out on our feet.

its because he goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about the same thing. Whilst he is often right he is still annoying with his delivery.

Spot on. Anyone who thinks I am being harsh should listen to the final 5 minutes of the MMM call last night. A thousand times worse than his usual TV effort which is usually not too bad.

The MMM commentary in general is 1000 times worse than the nein tv effort.

They seem to be attempting to be a 50/50 serious commentary/trying to be Roy & HG JJJ era show.

i know exactly what you mean, yossi. he completely gives me the _[INSERT PROFANITY HERE]_ !
i admit he hasnt been as bad recently, but he used to always seem SO anti tigers to me and that goes against the hope that commentators can be objective. i swear, he mustve been overlooked when sheens got the job.
but recently he has been ranting that he wants the tiges on 9 every sunday (i dont, because i have foxtel so i can see them!) and i like to hear him excited when the guys are putting on a show.
i will also say that one point he has repeatedly (as always!) made is his opinion against night games and the effect of dew on handling, and therefore the game overall. i completely agree with him on this.

…but he still annoys me!

actually, he reminds me of ian chappell when he used to commentate. everything was how HE would do it and gould puts across that he was the most amazing coach ever and what he thinks is the be all and end all of rugby league.

I actually use the Ian Chappell comparison. They both have a habit of taking a reasonable observation and grinding it into the ground.

It's not so much if he was right (he probably was), it's the fact he said it non-stop. Okay make your point and move on. Seriously it was the only thing he said during the final 5 minutes - you really have to listen to it to get a full feel of how bad it was. You couldn't even hear if the Manly conversion went over at 19-16 or what was going on in the game during the final couple of minutes

Thats right. The point u make in the original post is obvious, your referring to the annoying way he kept saying it, but for some reason, some on here miss that point and argue "well he was right", a fact u dont dispute. Very annoying when people miss the main point of someones post/thread, and when u explain further they still stick to an argument that u actually agree with, but still miss the point u make. :unamused:

Ill spell it out for some of u….....Yossarian agrees we were gone, but he hated how Gould kept harping on it ruining a radio call where listeners are supposed to imagine whats happening through the game being called.

Gould has a great football mind, I find him generally spot on the money and he was again last night, we were gone, dead and buried, no question. The other commentators were ready to give us the win by 40 at halftime.

You gotta ask yourself if he did say something complimentary would it really make you feel better? and if it does shouldn't you get out more?

Phil Gould is a pain in the neck but on foxtel we now have the three wise men lead by Phil Goulds clone mr know it all Laurie Daley never shuts up somebody at foxtel should tell him to shut up and just call the game. Talk about larry curley and moe

You've totally missed the point haven't you? Refer to the post by King Siro above.

how can people say that gould was right with his assertion that the tigers were "gone"?!
history now shows that the final score was tigers 19 - manly 18\. the tigers were never behind the whole game, so even if they appeared to be tiring the fact remains that they won and never actually even fell behind where it counts - the scoreboard.
so many times we have been on the other end of these close ones, so i say lets give it to any doubters and enjoy a great win.
up yours 'mr negative' gould!

And we won imagine that….

Imagine what? He was still right either way.

I don't know why so many people get worked up about media coverage. Personally I couldn't give a stuff if we aren't being backslapped or praised. Quite frankly we don't deserve it.

Let them praise the Dragons and Manly - they'll both fall flat on their arse eventually.

I mean as shot as we where we still won….it's a good thing

Ihavent missed the point but if you dont like what the guys says or the way he goes on dont listen

i think you missed the point about how you missed the point….

yours truly,
turnstyle,
aka, the worlds second most annoying man!!

actually, i think its fair to say andrew flintoff is more annoying than me, so make it worlds third most annoying man.

I can see where you guys are coming from but I really don't mind him as a commentator.

I was listening to triple MMM last night and watching the replay this morning gould was 100% correct in saying what he said about our team last night.

Sheens even said if manly played out their last set we were gone, anyone that knows footy could see we were gone, had orford not thrown a ball into touch on the 2nd tackle, we were gone….its plain as day

Gould is like an old punchy drunk with no memory sometimes, repetitve to the point of annoyance.

The thing people find abrasive about Gould is his annoying way of repeating everything 4 maybe 5 times.
Doesn't bother me, no attention span.

Nah not at all. I was referring to the posts that seem upset Gould wasn't more complimentary. I thought we were gone too and I generally don'd mind Gould but he did repeat himself a helluva lot.

I think Gould likes the tigers, but his appreciation of us is sometimes quite patronising. It's like he is giving us a a pat on the head when he compliments us…"You're a good football team to watch, you're just not top 8 material and no-one will ever take you seriously, but you're good to watch. Now run along and play."

But if you really want to be annoyed at a commentator for going out of his way to discredit any win we have, just listen to 2sm and Graham Hughes!

great summation, spot on.

point conceded....
even the most ardent of tigers supporters couldnt deny they were out on their feet and running on empty at the end.
it just got my hackles up the way he wrote them off and (repeatedly) said they were gone.
as others have said, league is league, sport is sport, and the bounce of a ball can obviously change the course of a game, but then who is to say that with a different bounce the tigers wouldnt have won by 30? unlikely, but no one can say either way for sure.

at the end of the 80 minutes the tigers were in front and therefore won the match and it is the guts and determination shown by them on monday night that is what it takes to be winners in the nrl.
