Phil Goulds Comments about the Tigers

4\. Don’t dump on the Tigers just yet.
Yes I know it wasn’t pretty, but don’t go giving up on Wests Tigers just yet. It happens to all teams at one time or another. You think you are ready to go but for some reason once you take the field nothing seems to fall into place. The Tigers got themselves into a tailspin on Monday night against the Knights and just couldn’t stop themselves from spiralling out of control. There have been a number of changes to this club and this team over the past six months. Chemistry is sometimes just as important as talent when it comes to building a team. They will get it right soon enough. I’m not giving up on them.

I have vented after Monday and feel a bit better.

Still the same failures are still wearing the colours in the NRL squad from last year and that gives me real cause for concern

They mentioned during the broadcast our previous worst rd 1 loss was in 2005 against Parra….yeh way too early but like swordy hard to see it

It's a vaild point he made. Fair to say we looked more like 2012 than 2013 out on the field. Even though the coach and players have talked about a shift in focus this season. It will take time. Dare I say few more weeks at least to iron out the kinks in our habits and game plans.

Well the issues people have identified here and elsewhere aren't overly complicated - hang on to the ball, get your defence right, more line speed in attack and defence etc. And it's not like we're lacking in talent. A few selection changes and addressing those fundamentals will make a massive difference. Whether that happens is debatable but he's right in suggesting a larger sample is needed before we write the year off completely.

Looking at Mick on the post match interviews you could see he was not happy to put it politely and neither was Robbie who was one of the few who kept trying!
Phil Gould usually pees me off big style but on the Sharks situation and about the Tigers he's actually been speaking sensibly, which makes me wonder if an off season lobotomy was performed or maybe ASADA should be looking at him?? 😱pen_mouth:

My memory tells me that Wests Tigers went on a long continuous winning streak after a 52 to 4 loss against Souths at the SCG about 3 or 4 years ago. Does anyone know whether this Is correct? It would also be very interesting if a Wests Tigers historian could advise whether any changes were made in the Wests Tigers 2005 Round 2 team after the Round 1 loss.

I got no doubts the Tigers will bounce back and beat the Panthers.

It's the next week that matters.. not the inevitable bounce back.

We actually had a bye in rd 2 2005, but suffice to say after the round one loss Benji replaced Fitzhenry at 5/8\. And Farah came onto the bench.

Round 3 and 4 2005 we beat the Bulldogs and Roosters in consecutive rounds, previous seasons premiers. If I recall correctly. One was that match where we were thumping the Dogs and Anasta single handedly drew the game level in the dying moments only for Prince to slot a last second field goal.

It doesn't matter what WT did in 2005 or 3 or 4 years ago. The WT of of 2013 is all that matters. I hope Gould is right, he is the expert, but I seriously doubt we will be too much of a threat to the top teams this season.

Theres no way we will play same as last week we will bounce back in a big way and start showing who the tigers are its early rounds still lets see how we go in the next 6 to 10 weeks before we know were we are at for this year.

Feeling nostalgic??

Was lucky enough to be at all those games

first ten minutes we looked good.
if our attack is like that all year i'll be happy.
obviously, its not our attack thats the concern.
