I've never really understood the hatred for wighton. Seems everyone either can't stand the guy or thinks he's crap. I dunno, but I've seen him have some pretty damn good games

Jack Wighton would have been closed to a first pick choice starting centre for the blues if Sticky had not tried to make him into a fullback. He was a great defensive centre, strong, hard as nails and was not a slug in a foot race. Probably even could have made the switch to the backrow, but Sticky destroyed all that.

I'd still gladly sign him as a centre, I just think he's a bit of a rubbish fullback given his hands and decision making.

Agreed

Not too many higher quality players available at this time of year.

Yeah Pearce, Maloney, Moylan, Cronk, Green signed elsewhere..just in the last 2 weeks

Correct, meaning they are not available.

All of them bar one also had contracts with their previous Clubs..quality players are always available given the right circumstances…

x2 he doesn't belong on that list off the strength of his D alone. He's got that AFL courage

Is this a joke that I've missed? AFL "courage"? Wow… Just what you need in Rugby League. Running around in circles, fumbling, while blind siding stick insects is real courageous.
Assuming that means he also has the courage to tackle a guy face to face 1 on 1?
Either way Pita is a solid player and has been for years. Hell go very well in State Cup and when called upon hold his own in 1st grade.

Yes, like Rankin & Littlejohn did, except he is a couple of years older. Think there were better options around than signing this journeyman
