Player and match stats from today

Loving watching the Tigers at the moment - their collective effort is fantastic and they really deserve these wins. Again I thought the NRL did everything they could to get the storm over the line via the refs with a number of very dubious calls.

Just some constructive criticism only with the view that we can certainly improve still in some areas…
1) I am sorry to all the Tui fans bit I am still not seeing it - his positional play at fullback in defending the kicks that Storm and Eels have put through has been poor. He seems extremely slow to turn and chase as well. I don't think he is as safe under the high ball as Thomson or as sharp generally. As for the so called XFactor he brings - I am not seeing that either. I cant see him saving a try like Thomson is capable of either. Ivan needs to take his general kicking licence away as well. I vote Thomson to fullback and Noffa back to wing.
2) Matulino has some costly errors in him that need to be improved. We've been lucky so far.
3) I watched both Rochow and Huth play the ball and Rochow never used his foot and was lucky to not get pinged on many occasions. Huth of course gave away the penalty that led to the Slater try at half time. Both need to fix this.
4) When Reynolds or ET are back I think we will see Godinet go back to ISP. Liddle will start and will get a rest with Reynolds or Benji acting as DH. Huth will go to the bench. Aloiai needs to stay in the 17 so not sure if MCK will keep his spot if all are fit. It's a tough call as he is playing really well i think.

73% completions is not good but can be excused with some wet conditions.

42 missed tackles needs to be improved considerably for future games.

Still, a good job to win with those two stats.

Our scramble is amazing. Against the Broncos we also had about 42 missed tackles and they only had something like 6 line brakes all game. In each tackle particularly around the middle we have so many numbers there. Sometimes the first tackler is getting there so quick they can't make an effective tackle but it's gives the rest of the line time to build a wall and the opposition is not getting effective offloads going. It's a different style of defence but it's working.

I feel the metres in attack could be approved all around the park. None of those stats particularly stood out. Aloiai has been excellent off the bench. Really adding a dynamic to our go forward.
Lolohea’s stats are abysmal, yes maybe he did a couple good things which aren’t reflected & he has come back from injury so then Thompson should really be our starting no.1 in that respect until he can provide 100% fitness.
Godinet average at best, hopefully over the next few weeks Liddle can start. Watch the Manly v Titans game from this arvo & note how involved Manly’s hooker is, he makes runs, gets into dummy half quickly and reads the play. He set up a beautiful try by doing his role well. At the moment Godinet offers nothing but borderline forward passes & 9m of nothing. How he’s picked in front of Mc is beyond me.

I like Tui, I really do. He has that xfactor about him and he does some nice things on the field at times like the 40/20 save (albeit not often enough). And he's our only decent goal kicker, he needs to be in the team.

However, I'd much rather have Thompson playing fullback - he is just better suited to the position, imo. He reads the plays well, is fast & elusive, is always there for the short kicks into the opposition's ingoal and he seems to know when to inject himself into the backline. Keeping him on the wing is a waste of his talent, I reckon.

I don't know where that leaves Tui tho, we have such a surplus of players this season, though we just lost 2 promising centres recently so maybe he can slot in the three quarter line somewhere? I really don't know.

If stats told the reason why the Tigers are winning, opposition coaches would have a better handle on counter acting the Tigers style of football.
Last year a lot of focus was on Tedesco and Woods. Now they have 13 players on the paddock all going at 100% for 80 minutes. Which is very hard to stop. One player one week will get 100 plus metre stats then the next week he'll get half that and some else will get 100 plus metres.

I think thats the beauty of this team tbh. Mwz doesnt have alot of impact but is safe as houses under the high ball and his work ethic is amazing. Lolo isnt as active as other fullbacks and hasnt really injected himself offensively. Most of our forwards arent producing 100m a game. Robbie rochow is leading the comp in missed tackles. Kev still makes some poor defensive reads. Benji still has his brain explosion moments. Rowdy drops the ball a bit.

All of these are ok though we are finding ways to win and fighting hard on every play. These areas will improve which means the team will improve which to me is super exciting as we are beating good teams.

I'm a Stats person myself, but if your team is winning well or losing badly, taking out individual stats ends up a bit pointless. So what if Tui doesn't get the metres of Tedesco, he's doing enough to keep us winning. He kicked us to victory last week honestly, 4 sideline jobs, would have made a different game if Parra were chasing less converted tries.

There is a sum total of Tui's ability that is beyond individual items, and if you are seriously considering replacing him then you need to cost-compare the replacement options. Thommo is doing fine but he's a better winger than FB. Tui has an X-factor that other teams do need to worry about, because he can inject himself, can ball-play, can put in the odd kick or jinking run.

I actually think a previous comment about Tedesco is apt - Teddy was doing too much last year and half of it was great, half of it was really ordinary. Tui is doing enough, not over-playing, letting his halves dictate, being safe at the back but injecting himself as required. It reads like a continuation of the team effort for mine.

Top post jirskyr - I agree with all you have said - our current FB is not Tedesco - I think he is a better "team" player than Tedesco was, it will take time (which is what we all expected) but people want to drop him, giving him no time.

He is slowly easing into it - trained all limited pre season (World Cup) with Reynolds 5/8, now he has Benji. Every time he turns around he has a different DH - McILwrick, Godinet, Liddle and sometimes a fill in. Has been dropped, had a knee injury etc etc. all in the first 5 games.

I think Thompson is better on the wing and leave the FB as is. It gets down to, do you want the FB to stay as is or make the change and bring Nofo into the team. Obviously Ivan is going for the back three we have now.

Personally I agree with him.

Statics are great but take Sharon as an example, use to provide big numbers but did they tell the real story i.e slow play the balls, killing our momentum, no second faze, slow line speed, etc.

Teddy again big numbers but also play use to break down.

I rather quality over quantity which we are witnessing this year with a more shared statics and team effort which IC has instilled. All 17 players putting in for each other "On the Bus" ethos.

A fit Josh Aloiai off the bench is huge for us. Love his work and aggression. Could be our future Simon Dwyer. Garth Ellis.

Really need to get rid of the bench hooker once Reynolds and/or Taylor are back. Seems a waste.

Bench will be a 5 way battle once all players are available.
